Chapter 24: Assassination
byChapter 24: Assassination
In Su Mo's view, Wu Chenfeng's approach was sheer nonsense.
Engagement and breaking off engagements were major matters; how could they be decided by a mere exchange of moves?
Most importantly, even though Su Mo did not fully approve of this marriage, if it were to be broken off, it should be his own decision.
Not something done under pressure or as the result of a wager.
This was not only disrespectful to Yang Xiaoyun but also belittled him, Su Mo.
"The son of the Deputy City Lord of Sunset City acts like a reckless youth with no scheming at all?
"No wonder he only knows how to pester people."
As he walked toward the Ziyang Escort Agency, Su Mo shook his head lightly.
Today's conversation with Yang Xiaoyun had revealed the situation with the Iron Blood Escort Agency. They were now involuntarily embroiled in the internal strife of the Fallen Phoenix Alliance.
They had become a key factor.
Some wanted to exploit Yang Yizhi's network along the eastern route, while others sought to use Yang Xiaoyun as a breakthrough.
Wu Chenfeng, that reckless youth, might have been used as a pawn without realizing it.
"I hope this will make him back off... solving my own trouble and giving Yang Xiaoyun some relief."
Just as he was about to continue walking, he suddenly stopped.
In order to evade Wu Chenfeng's persistent harassment, he deliberately employed his martial prowess to send him tumbling into a dining establishment, then swiftly made his way down a side street leading towards the Ziyang Escort Agency.
The narrow alley was empty, devoid of pedestrians, yet filled with a chilling aura.
Lifting his eyes, he saw two black-clad figures descending from above, each wielding a short knife aimed directly at his head.
Their attack was lethal!
A flash of killing intent crossed Su Mo's eyes. With a swift movement, he unleashed the Great Sun Scattering Palm, circling his hands to cut through the blades of the two black-clad figures, then suddenly seizing their wrists.
With the surge of inner strength, there were two loud cracks as their wrists were crushed by Su Mo.
These two black-clad figures, whose origins were unknown, showed no hesitation in their intent to kill.
Even with their wrists shattered, they did not utter a sound, and their other hands reached for the knives to continue the assault.
At that moment, a powerful force swept around them. While still suspended mid-air, they were thrown by Su Mo, slamming into the walls on either side of the alley.
The impact left them disoriented and feeling as if their insides were burning.
Before they could recover, Su Mo's palms struck, smashing their heads into the walls.
Their bones shattered, and they died instantly.
However, this wave of assassination was not over. After killing these two, Su Mo leaped up, narrowly avoiding two short knives thrust from behind.
Mid-air, he delivered a powerful punch.
One black-clad figure was hit first, the force penetrating his organs, causing him to stumble forward and vomit a mouthful of blood, soaking his mask and spilling out organ fragments.
The other black-clad figure, seeing his attack miss, tried to flee far away.
But before he could use his lightness skills, he felt a tight grip on his neck, followed by a crushing force that slammed him to the ground.
Bones cracked loudly, and intense pain shot through his limbs. Turning his head, he saw that all four of his limbs had been snapped by Su Mo.
Feeling a weight on his head, he realized Su Mo's foot was pressing down on him.
Bending down, Su Mo removed the man's mask, raising an eyebrow slightly.
The face beneath the mask was scarred and disfigured.
"Quite ruthless, aren't you?"
Su Mo pressed harder with his foot. "Open your mouth, let me see."
Upon hearing this, despair flashed in the man's eyes, but he clenched his jaw tighter.
"Really?"
Surprised, Su Mo increased the pressure, and the man's mouth slowly opened. A glint of metal flashed, and something flew out of his mouth, embedding itself in the opposite wall.
Su Mo took a deep breath, thought for a moment, then put on a deerskin glove before carefully examining the man's mouth.
He discovered that not only was the man's face scarred and disfigured, but he also had no tongue, replaced by a black leather pouch connected to a mechanism installed between his teeth.
This device was sinister. When used, it was inserted into the mouth; when not needed, it could be removed.
At the right moment, opening the mouth would trigger the mechanism, launching hidden weapons to take lives.
Had Su Mo not noticed the man's tightly closed mouth after removing his mask, he might have fallen victim to this trap.
"Cutting the tongue to the root, so you can't speak."
Su Mo sighed, no longer hesitating, and killed the man with a single palm strike.
Given the extreme measures taken, questioning this black-clad figure was pointless, regardless of whether Su Mo had interrogation methods or if the man could write.
Even if he could... it’s likely that he wouldn’t say or write anything.
Moreover, such assassins might have taken poison before leaving, so if the plan fails and they can’t return in time, they would die from the poison.
Rather than delay, it would be better to just kill them outright.
But after standing up, Su Mo felt wronged.
Why would these people come to kill him when he was perfectly fine?
"Is Wu Chenfeng planning revenge?
"Doesn’t seem like it...
"After coming out of the Iron Blood Escort Agency, Wu Chenfeng was waiting for me at the entrance.
"During the time after I threw him away, even if he had the chance to give such an order, these people wouldn’t have arrived so quickly.
"If not him..."
Su Mo changed his train of thought: "Then there are only two possibilities... One is that the group who wiped out the Yu clan found out about me and decided to kill me to erase any information related to the Xuanji Token. But judging from the style of these assassins, they are completely different from the black-clad men who appeared that night; they don’t seem to be the same group.
"Furthermore, since Yu Lingxin used the Xuanji Token as bait and dared to lure those people out, she must have covered her tracks well. It’s unlikely that these people could find any clues from that night.
"The other possibility is... that person who couldn’t bear sons?"
Thinking this, Su Mo was slightly stunned, but then he frowned and looked in a certain direction: "Just leaving like that?"
Earlier, someone was hiding there.
However, this person was very skilled at concealing their presence, only revealing a slight trace when the assassins suddenly appeared.
Su Mo pretended to be stunned just to see if this person was also here to kill him.
If so, they would have seized the opportunity and attacked, falling into Su Mo’s hands.
But now...
"Why does trouble never cease in the martial world? How come there are still so many issues even after returning home?"
He sighed deeply, no longer dwelling on it, and returned directly to the Ziyang Escort Agency.
