Chapter 65: The Necromancer
by 幻雨The moon hung high in the sky, a comfortable and tranquil night.
A rustling sound—in the middle of the night, a strange noise reached Xu Feng's ears. As a mage, his mental faculties far surpassed those of ordinary people. Though sound asleep, he was quickly roused.
"Xiuer."
"What is it, Master?"
"Shh." Xu Feng made a gesture for silence, then gently woke the young princess of the Snake Clan. The two girls were puzzled, but Xu Feng motioned for them to listen.
The strange sound was particularly clear in the quiet night. Though still distant, it was gradually approaching.
"Master, what is it?"
Xu Feng shook his head, a sense of foreboding in his heart.
"Could Nasim have sent someone for Arola?" A thought flashed through Xu Feng's mind, but he quickly dismissed it. After all, so much time had passed. Logically, the young princess should have escaped far away. It was impossible for them to foresee that his group was still moving slowly.
Though he didn't understand the situation, staying here was clearly unwise. Xu Feng took the two girls deeper into the woods, under cover of the trees, to make it harder to be spotted.
In the darkness, Arola accidentally kicked a branch. The girl stumbled, and Xu Feng caught her by the slender waist. "Be careful."
Her waist felt soft and smooth as fine jade. It was said that the waists of Snake Clan girls were the most beautiful, and the rumor was indeed true. However, at this moment, Xu Feng was in no mood for such distractions. He took Arola's small hand and continued forward.
Hiding in a thicket, with two stunning girls on either side, their fragrant scent lingering, even in this desolate wilderness, there was a peculiar, alluring charm. Being a time-traveler—even running into trouble could be so... eventful.
Flap, flap, flap—
The flapping of startled birds. The sound grew closer, reaching the edge of the woods. Xu Feng cast an Eagle Eye spell on himself and looked out. Several figures came into view.
The young man's brow immediately furrowed, and for good reason—they weren't human. Pale, skeletal frames with eerie ghostly flames flickering in their hollow eye sockets. Undead creatures!
Skeleton Soldiers. On Earth, these could only be fictional creations from novels or movies, but on Hailan Star, they were the favored minions of necromancers.
Necromancers, as the name implied, were mages who practiced necromancy. Necromancy was sinister and evil, disturbing the eternal rest of the dead. It had long been shunned by society, and the Church of Light regarded it as heresy. Once discovered, necromancers were sent to the stake. Yet, after thousands of years, though necromancers were like vermin, they still couldn't be completely eradicated...
At some point, dark clouds covered the moon, and the sky darkened. The temperature began to drop.
A cold night, white bones—they looked so jarring in the darkness. An ordinary person would likely have fainted from fear by now. However, Xu Feng was a disciple of a Saint Expert and an Intermediate Upper Mage, so he wasn't particularly concerned. Mere Skeleton Soldiers were trash; the truly terrifying thing was the necromancer behind them.
Talk about bad luck. Camping in the wilderness and running into this.
Crunch, crunch—the Skeleton Soldiers entered the woods. Xiuer turned pale with fear, pressing her soft, delicate body against Xu Feng's chest, as if only then could she feel a sliver of safety. Arola was handling it a bit better, but she was still somewhat nervous. Though theoretically, she knew Skeleton Soldiers were the lowest form of undead and that, given her strength, dealing with them would be easy... but knowing something in theory was one thing; experiencing it firsthand was another.
This young princess was not weak, but these skeletons were just too ugly. Girls were afraid of moving bones like these. She was so tense her delicate body trembled slightly, one hand tightly gripping Xu Feng's arm. He was stunned to realize such a slender and delicate hand could have so much strength... it hurt.
Xu Feng sighed. Arola was proud, but even the feistiest little pepper was still a girl. When it came to critical moments, she would show her vulnerable side.
"Don't be afraid!"
Xu Feng slipped his arm around the girl's slender waist. The little girl no longer dared to act tough and leaned into Xu Feng's embrace, her full, soft chest pressing against his arm. This wasn't Xu Feng taking advantage—honestly, the feeling was truly amazing.
The Skeleton Soldiers were slowly approaching. Though Xu Feng held two beauties, their warmth and fragrance enveloping him, he didn't dare let himself get distracted by the thrilling closeness. He kept a sliver of clarity in his mind. As the saying goes, lust is a knife over one's head. The situation was critical, and Xu Feng wasn't the type to prioritize lust over his life. After all, one had to stay alive to enjoy beautiful women.
Of course, Xu Feng was absolutely not afraid. His own strength was not weak, and he had the Dragon Soul crystal his teacher had given him, which could greatly enhance his combat power. As for the young princess, though she was a bit timid, she still possessed considerable strength in a real fight.
Xu Feng didn't want trouble, but that didn't mean he was afraid of it. If that necromancer was foolish enough, he would definitely beat him until even his own mother wouldn't recognize him.
There were three Skeleton Soldiers in total. They came within less than twenty meters of their hiding spot. Xu Feng gently released the two girls' waists. Elemental energy fluctuated, and several Wind Blades hovered above his palm. If the enemy came any closer, Xu Feng was prepared to strike first.
However, sometimes things could be so strange.
Xu Feng was already ready to act, but at that very moment, the Skeleton Soldiers suddenly turned around. Without even glancing at the bushes, they headed toward the left.
...
Speechless, Xu Feng was stunned. Could it be that the necromancer's target wasn't them?
Damn, all that commotion, and it turned out to be a false alarm.
