by adminA round of clashes created a tacit understanding between the two sword masters who had not revealed their identities. The only reason they stopped was the distant encirclement of over a hundred experts.
The hidden killing intent directed towards them made it clear that these were not mere bystanders. Knowing that a third party was watching, stopping was naturally the best choice.
What could make such strong individuals wary was certainly no ordinary force. With Chen Xuanfeng's keen senses, he could naturally feel the radiant energy emanating from the hundred or so people, and their power, which was at least at the level of a Sword Master. Therefore, it wasn't difficult to guess that they were the enhanced human soldiers sent by the Holy Temple, or perhaps more accurately, the 'Reborn Warriors' unit.
"It seems the Holy Temple has a deep grudge against you, to have drawn the elite of the Angel Corps from the front lines against the orcs to deal with you. How about it, do you need my help?" The werewolf in human form feigned a gloating attitude.
"According to common strategy, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Aren't you going to join forces with them against me? It's a rare opportunity," the white-clad Qi Si retorted without hesitation.
As the two bantered leisurely, the figures in the distance finally completed their encirclement and revealed themselves.
Leading the way were thirty 'Angel Reborn' Angel Warriors, who transformed into their angelic forms upon appearance, spreading their radiant wings to take to the skies. Following them were twenty Titan Warriors wrapped in lightning, each standing seven to eight meters tall, with iron-black skin and silver-white hair, their arms continuously emitting blue lightning, effectively sealing off a vast space. Behind them were about fifty Temple Guards in dark golden armor, each wielding a pair of lightning-infused blades. These were also light warriors produced through 'Reborn Transformation,' though their combat power was much inferior to the Angel Warriors or Titan Warriors. Similarly, their transformation costs and failure rates were much lower than the former two, making them auxiliary forces to the Angel and Titan units.
In the final position stood a dozen or so black-robed individuals, some of whom were likely light mages and priests, but there were also commanders and experts responsible for tactical maneuvers. It was impossible to identify each one at the moment, but Chen Xuanfeng could confirm that among them was a strong individual at the level of one of the four Grand Prelates, as well as his own disciple, Xi Luo, with whom he often had fateful meetings.
The white-clad Qi Si quietly waited for all the Holy Temple's forces to reveal themselves, remaining silent throughout, his gaze distant and contemplative.
Finally, four individuals emerged from the last row of black-robed figures. One of them pushed back the hood covering his head and face, declaring coldly, "You, full of sin and condemned by heaven, have been led away from your nest of evil by the might of God, destined to receive the judgment of light here today!"
Though the words were fierce, the voice was surprisingly gentle, revealing that it was a young female knight. Chen Xuanfeng, looking from afar, thought he recognized this woman. She was the leader of the 'Holy Chain Knights,' one of the seven knight orders of the Holy Temple, known as the 'Young Masters and Ladies Knights,' and the daughter of Duke Sirotia—Elizabeth. It was she who had led the 'Holy Chain Knights' in escorting the Holy Temple delegation, including Chen Xuanfeng, to Sacred Dragon Mountain for negotiations. Though not familiar, she was someone he remembered. It was unexpected that after five or six years, she had not left the 'Holy Chain Knights' to take over her family's estate or marry into another family.
"Truly the consistent style of the Holy Temple, starting off with a bunch of talk about gods and sins. Does that really increase the chances of victory?" Chen Xuanfeng murmured sarcastically, looking at the still arrogant female knight.
The white-clad Qi Si nodded in agreement, "Indeed, the Holy Temple has always been this boring, always using such methods to deceive and manipulate others, then fabricating charges to eliminate dissent. Just thinking about it is disheartening."
Chen Xuanfeng, however, was not appreciative, rolling his eyes as he replied, "I'm just stating the facts, not saying they're wrong, especially about you—'Dark Eagle' Griffith."
"Oh? You've figured it out?" The white-clad man, using the alias Qi Si, expressed slight surprise.
"Not figuring it out would be strange. As the owner of one of the four epic divine swords, 'Light Saber,' possessing the legendary talent to turn inferior martial arts into peerless techniques, plus your distinctive appearance and level of power, it couldn't be anyone else, could it?" Chen Xuanfeng shook his head, "But I am curious, aren't you a Death Knight? Why do I feel that the power within you is of a holy nature?"
"Hey, generally, the nature of power is the key to identifying someone, right? I was hoping to use that to confuse my identity. Your method of judgment is really strange," admitted Griffith, the 'Dark Eagle,' sighing as he rubbed his forehead.
Griffith, the 'Dark Eagle,' held a significant place in the not-so-long history of humans, a weight derived from his legendary experiences—once the top genius warrior of the Holy Temple, later the Grand Commander of the 'Death Knights' of the Undead Island, the initiator and overall commander of the 'Undead War,' and the greatest mass murderer in human history.
Legend has it that in his youth, he was originally a reserve Holy Knight recruited by the Holy Temple. However, because his performance in training was far from the Holy Temple's expectations, he was assigned at the age of fourteen to lead a small mercenary group called the 'Eagle Corps,' a dilapidated organization of less than a hundred people belonging to the Holy Temple's peripheral organizations. This appointment was essentially a permanent exile at the time.
However, adversity did not bring down the young Griffith. He quickly demonstrated exceptional talent in tactics, internal affairs, finance, and political diplomacy, among other areas. In just two years, he developed the originally dismal small mercenary group into a large mercenary group of up to three thousand people, and gathered many expert companions, making the 'Eagle Corps' battle flag a symbol of invincibility on the battlefield.
Not only that, his martial arts talent gradually revealed itself, continuously defeating long-famous strong individuals, establishing his own martial prestige. His most famous battle was using several inferior martial arts such as the 'Nameless Sword Technique,' 'Demon-Slaying Blade Technique,' and 'Cross Spear Technique' to fight to a draw with a female swordsman from Moonlight Tower who was stronger than him and used the 'Star Chess Sword.' It should be noted that the 'Star Chess Sword' was derived from the martial wisdom of the 'Ancestor of Sword Saints' contained in the 'Nameless Heavenly Sword,' known to break all martial arts in the world, and was always relied upon by Moonlight Tower successors to challenge higher levels. Who would have thought that it would be suppressed by Griffith's technique and skill, naturally causing a sensation. It was then that people realized that this young man was not lacking in martial arts talent, but was too much of a genius, to the extent that the Holy Temple's martial arts instructors became obstacles to his growth. Only when he left the Holy Temple's path and personally faced slaughter did he naturally forge his own fantastical martial arts path.
