Chapter 7 Repeatedly jumping left and right
byThis feeling needs to be remembered. He could make an excellent NPC; with this appearance, he'd definitely be incredibly popular. Indeed, the imagination of artists still has its limits; nature is the greatest creator.
But soon, a bulky figure appeared before him, blocking everything. Blocking beauty's radiance is an extremely impolite act.
"You, step back. If you look again, I'll punch you!" A deep voice filled with great dissatisfaction woke Old Wang from his reverie.
The Holy Sanctuary uniform couldn't hide his build. Standing at around 1.9 meters tall, slightly taller than Wang Feng, his bulging muscles and strength strained against the fabric. His overpowering soul warned any opponent of his might.
Most of the Eight Tribes are indistinguishable from humans, except for their slightly pointed ears and better looks. These two must be geniuses personally recruited by the principal from the Datura Empire.
The little girl curiously observed Wang Feng. Wang Feng helplessly shrugged and pointed at the curious Gandharva girl, "What if she looks at me?"
"Then I'll punch you too!" the boy replied straightforwardly.
Wang Feng rolled his eyes. Forget Karida, that old hag; even a child dares to challenge him. Suddenly, he leaped to the right, "Look, I'm looking!" Then he jumped to the left, "Ah, I looked again! Come on, try to punch me twice; if you miss once, you're a dog!"
Yin Fu, who had been a bit worried, couldn't help but laugh. Mo Tong's nose nearly twisted; he had never seen anyone jump like that. He raised his fist high, but Yin Fu quickly intervened, "Mo Tong, Mo Tong, didn't you forget what the elder said? This isn't Datura!"
"This kid provoked me; I need to fight him—a life-or-death duel!" Mo Tong's handsome face was contorted with anger.
"Sigh, now I understand why the population of the Eight Tribes doesn't grow," Wang Feng said, glancing mischievously at Mo Tong. He must be from the Mahoraga clan, a powerhouse like a young bull.
In his design for Emperor of the Nine Heavens, the Gandharvas were full of art, romance, and kindness—the perfect wives.
"You're still looking!" Mo Tong was about to lose control. He hadn't wanted to come to a human place; the King's College in the Datura Empire was far superior. Besides, he hated runes—these dull and stupid scribbles made him dizzy.
Wang Feng smiled, teasing the straightforward boy, and winked at the Gandharva girl. Mo Tong couldn't tolerate it and immediately rushed over, lifting Wang Feng up. Just as he was about to start a fight, footsteps echoed.
"If you don't put me down, the mentor will arrive, and your punch will reduce the Rune Academy's numbers by a third." Old Wang laughed provocatively.
If it were a beastman, he would have backed off instantly, but Mahoragas were brutish yet intelligent. As long as they could reason, Old Wang wasn't afraid.
Mo Tong reluctantly threw the scrawny human aside, hearing the approaching footsteps.
He was glad he came along to supervise. Humans were cunning, deceitful, and lustful; he needed to protect Yin Fu!
A middle-aged man wearing a rune master's robe walked in, smiling warmly upon seeing the three.
"Greetings, fellow juniors. I am Li Sitan, your senior. I'm responsible for welcoming new students this year. Truly, we are very, very happy to have you. Our Rune Academy hasn't had new students in years," Li Sitan said, feeling gratified as he looked at the trio. Although divine souls were rare, there were always some each year. Unfortunately, divine souls were less inclined to become rune masters, and the elite route of the Judgment Holy Sanctuary was more attractive.
Yin Fu hesitated but then raised her hand, "Senior, may I ask a question?"
Li Sitan smiled gently, "Ask whatever you want. Learning runes is different from other professions. The path is lonely, so you'll need to support each other."
"How old are you, Senior?"
"I'm... let me think. I completed the third-order rune at forty-three and became a formal rune master. Five years later, I'm forty-eight." Li Sitan's face showed a rare hint of pride and satisfaction. Old Wang felt uneasy; Li Sitan looked sixty-eight. Studying runes really took a toll. He needed to revise his game settings.
"Does everyone take that long?" Mo Tong couldn't help asking. "Won't you be old by the time you finish?"
Mo Tong was quite respectful towards the senior of the Rune Academy. The Eight Tribes revered those who changed humanity through runes.
Li Sitan chuckled, "It varies. I'm rather slow. The first-order rune took me three years, the second-order ten years, and the third-order twenty years. Rune knowledge is vast like the ocean; time means nothing in the face of knowledge." Li Sitan spoke with both admiration and awe.
Old Wang always admired those dedicated to research and knowledge; he knew he couldn't do it himself.
"Senior Li Sitan, you're too humble. You're the second most talented person in Rose Holy Sanctuary after Principal Karida. It's an honor to study runes with you," Yin Fu said.
Li Sitan smiled faintly, a hint of pride flashing across his face, but he clearly didn't care much about such accolades. "Introduce yourselves to each other. Studying runes together and understanding their essence is a bond of fate and luck. You've chosen the right profession."
"Wang Feng. Nothing special. Thank you for transferring me to the Rune Academy. I'll work hard and not disappoint Principal Karida's expectations," Wang Feng said solemnly. In an unfamiliar place, basic survival skills included using authority as leverage.
Li Sitan nodded, "Wang Feng, the teacher specifically instructed me to be strict with you. After all these years, I've never seen Teacher Hawkland take someone so seriously. Perhaps you'll surpass me soon. Feel free to ask me anything during your studies."
...
Old Wang trembled. He sensed sincerity in the words. Was the acting that good?
He wondered just how strict "specific instructions" would be. Would they use props?
There was no way to report this here.
Mo Tong and Yin Fu were surprised. This person didn't seem like someone who needed special attention. Could it be the human saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover"?
(Thank you to "Beauty Is More Than Skin Deep" for the generous donation of 110,000, achieving the title of Supreme Lord of the Nine Heavens. Also, thank you to "Jade Master" and "Gudu Monster 07" for their donations of 100,000 each, achieving the same title. Bravo, bosses.)
