Chapter 8 Keep breathing and pretending to be cool
by"Wang Feng, hello. My name is Yin Fu. I belong to the Gandharva clan of the Asura. I love singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. My main focus is on runes, and I also study exorcism. My dream is to become a great hero whose legend will be sung by bards."
Li Sitan nodded, his kind grandfatherly smile returning. "Invited personally by the headmaster, everyone has high hopes for you. With the Gandharva's artistic talent, it's very possible you'll break rune learning records. Keep up the good work."
"Hello, Senior Brother Li Sitan. I'm Mo Tong from Mahoraga. My main focus is martial arts, and I also study runes. I don't like complicated things, but I'll do my best." Mo Tong said straightforwardly.
Li Sitan smiled and nodded. "Even though you're studying runes part-time, they can still greatly benefit your martial arts. Study hard."
Having already greeted them, Mo Tong joined the Rune Academy as an attendant, but he was also a divine seed.
"Alright, that's all from me. Gather at the Triumph Square. The headmaster will address you shortly, and someone will deliver your course schedules." Li Sitan hurried off, clearly finding small talk and pleasantries a waste of time for a rune master.
On their way out, there were only three of them. Mo Tong walked in the middle, using his broad body to block Wang Feng's view, but Yin Fu kept glancing at Wang Feng with curious eyes.
Indeed, Wang Feng used to look at animals in the zoo the same way.
"Junior Sister Yin Fu, Junior Brother Mo Tong, we're comrades now. We should help each other. If you have any problems in the human world, come to me; I have quite some influence here!" Wang Feng said enthusiastically, knowing he needed to make friends to stay safe.
Mo Tong wanted to say something harsh but held back, his face turning red. His intuition told him that the other person was putting on airs.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up. "Wait, we're entering the same year. Why should you be our senior? No way!"
Yin Fu smiled sweetly. "That's right, Wang Feng. How about this: whoever studies better gets to be the senior?"
Wang Feng smiled slightly. "I'm definitely older. I've already studied alchemy for a year at the Rose Holy Sanctuary. Class of '97. The wise Headmistress Karida discovered my talent and transferred me to runes. So, no matter how you look at it, I'm your senior."
Mo Tong glanced at Wang Feng, sensing no hint of genius. This person's face screamed "stupid."
"Hmph, if you want to be my senior, fine. Let me throw one punch. If you can take it, I'll accept it!" Mo Tong declared bluntly.
Seeing Mo Tong clenching his fists, Old Wang felt a headache coming on. He just wanted to make friends, not fight: "Cough, Junior Brother Mo Tong, I'm an alchemist and rune student, not a fighter. As your senior, I must advise you not to resort to violence so easily. It makes people think less of your Mahoraga, and they might mistake you for a beastman."
"Bullshit! You're the beastman, your whole family is!" Mo Tong said angrily but unclenched his fists. Mahoraga had the strongest natural strength among the Asura, and comparing them to beastmen was a grave insult.
"Senior Brother Wang Feng, please take care of us," Yin Fu said, worried about Mo Tong's tendency to cause trouble.
"Don't worry, leave it to me. In the Rose Holy Sanctuary, there's nothing I can't handle. Even Headmistress Karida often invites me for tea," Old Wang said without batting an eye.
"You're lying. Princess Karida wouldn't have time for you!" Mo Tong pouted. The Asura respected Karida deeply, as she had proven her strength when she visited the Datura Empire's royal academy.
"Junior Brother Mo Tong, if it weren't for Headmistress Karida's special arrangement, I wouldn't even be here. Time will prove everything." Wang Feng said coolly, adding, "Besides, I might not even be here then."
With his silver tongue and vast knowledge, Wang Feng soon had both of them dazed. Mo Tong refused to admit defeat verbally, but he felt increasingly stupid arguing with this human.
Triumph Square was packed, and the expansion had certainly made it lively.
The League of Blades operated under the Holy Sanctuary system, where power, wealth, and authority were closely tied to the sanctuary. Although the new students were only "preparatory" members, the allure was strong enough.
Yin Fu and Mo Tong went to join their groups. Five representatives from the Asura had arrived, all reportedly top talents of their generation. The most striking was the woman in the center, tall and with shining golden hair, though her face was hidden behind an elegant mask. She was undoubtedly Lucky Heaven, the princess of the Datura Empire.
Old Wang found a corner to relax, avoiding the crowd.
When Karida descended dramatically from the sky, the entire Triumph Square erupted into thunderous cheers. Yes, this was their headmistress, the great martial artist!
Karida was a star at the Rose Holy Sanctuary, immensely popular. Her reforms, while controversial among the higher-ups, were a boon to ordinary people, giving them hope and a chance to become heroes or at least gain prestige.
Following Karida were the mentors of the eight professions, looking incredibly cool and powerful. Everyone could feel their aura, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere.
Old Wang couldn't help but dig his nose, noting how deliberate this display was. The headmistress was clearly skilled at both appearance and substance, but given time, he would figure out the situation here. Who would play whom was yet to be seen.
