To be honest, this isn't the first time. Back then, the power struggle between Thunder Dragon and the Holy Lord was an open secret among the League of Blades' top brass. Otherwise, how could the once-glorious Lei family, combined with the genius Thunder Dragon, collapse out of nowhere? Even feats like Wang Feng challenging the Eight Great Holy Sanctuaries had been attempted before by someone else from Rose—Karida! However, Karida couldn't hold a candle to Wang Feng’s current rep, and the impact and achievements she made paled in comparison. Thus, it barely made a splash, though it did keep Rose on life support for a few more years. Otherwise, the name of Rose Holy Sanctuary might have vanished years ago.
Now, after years of biding his time, Thunder Dragon has nurtured a monster of a disciple like Wang Feng—is this finally the moment for an all-out comeback? Is this his way of telling the world he intends to reclaim what he once lost?
Provocation?
If the target is Thunder Dragon, then perhaps this isn’t mere provocation—it’s a challenge!
This is a major upheaval. Rose’s ambitions are vast, but Thunder Dragon’s are even greater. Riding the momentum of their eight consecutive victories, leading a group of so-called 'deadweight' disciples to advancement, and finally unveiling the concept of the Ghost Level Class—now that’s how you sell it!
The hype has undoubtedly been a resounding success, instantly getting the whole League buzzing with immense anticipation for their Ghost Level Class. Even the Holy City can’t openly take shots at Rose at this critical juncture. The actual performance of the Ghost Level Class and Ghost Level Advanced Training Class will likely become the first battleground between the two sides.
All major factions are now on high alert, watching with bated breath. No matter how the Lei and Luo families feud, when gods fight, little guys get crushed. Thunder Dragon is a true deity, and his sudden resurgence only deepens the sense of his unfathomable power. Whatever the outcome between these two factions, everyone must keep their eyes wide open. Back the wrong horse, and you’re toast.
Regardless, the ghost level’s too juicy to pass up. Everyone’s scrambling for a spot in Rose’s Ghost Level Class. As the saying goes, "The law does not punish the masses." As long as everyone does it, there’s no fear of the Holy City retaliating later. Let Thunder Dragon and the Holy City fight as fiercely as they want—at least they won’t go nuclear right away. The priority is getting one’s own disciples to ghost level first!
...
All around, a barrage of Witchcraft lit up the sky as Amogan, Ye Dun, Tianzhe Yifeng, and others charged at her madly.
Winnie was severely injured, bleeding like a stuck pig, the pain making her want to cry. But she couldn’t flee—Ah Xi, Kela, Wu Di, and that big-chested girl were all unconscious on the ground behind her. If she ran, they would all die.
A golden soul card shimmered in her hand. Winnie’s small face darkened—she was ready for a do-or-die move.
Boom!
Light and shadows erupted as the soul card shattered.
"Come forth, Jiao Baba!" Winnie roared.
A summoning circle erupted in light on the ground ahead, and a Demon Bear appeared! Huh? Wait...
Winnie froze. Since when did Jiao Baba shrink?
She squinted and realized it wasn’t Jiao Baba emerging from the summoning circle—it was Wang Feng! The guy had shaved his head at some point and turned to flash her a thumbs-up, his bald scalp gleaming under a sudden flash of light.
"Leave it to me!" he declared confidently.
Winnie gaped. What the—? Where’s my damn bear? Why did she summon Wang Feng instead?
Before she could process it, the attacks from Zenith Holy Sanctuary arrived.
Amogan’s fire-tipped spear, Tianzhe Yifeng’s thunder javelin, Ye Dun’s egg blades, and a storm of Witchcraft rained down, instantly swallowing Wang Feng whole.
"Wang Feng! Wang Feng!" Winnie screamed in panic.
She thrashed blindly, grabbing at someone’s collar.
"Get off!" she snarled, flinging them aside, only to hear a yelp: "It’s me! It’s me! Little sis, what’s wrong?"
At the voice, Winnie slowly roused from her daze.
Blinking groggily, the first things she saw were the ceiling of a hospital room and two pairs of enormous eyes. Her fourth brother, Li Fusu, and third brother, Li Xuanyuan. Li Xuanyuan beamed, clutching her hand tightly. "She’s awake! Thank god!"
Both brothers looked overjoyed, but Winnie had no mind for them. She immediately tried to sit up, only to find her body numb and weak, unable to muster any strength. A feeble attempt left her lying right where she was.
But her physical state was the least of her concerns. Urgently, she asked, "What was the match result? Where’s Wang Feng?"
"We won! Rose won!" Li Xuanyuan burst into laughter. "Hah, little sis, let me tell you, your injuries weren’t in vain. Look at this morning’s *Holy Sanctuary’s Light*—your potential is ranked even higher than us brothers now..."
Winnie was stunned.
Is this brother an idiot? Can’t even lie properly... When she left the match, Rose had one win, one draw, and two losses. Even if Wang Feng had some underhanded way to take down Tianzhe Yifeng, the best they could’ve gotten was a draw. How did they win? As for potential, she knew full well the effects of the Soul Essence she drank. With her whole body aching like this, she was definitely crippled now.
Sure, she didn’t regret drinking it the moment she made the choice, but damn it, she’s in this state now, and he’s talking about potential? Way to rub salt in the wound!
"Not in the mood for you!" Winnie dismissed Li Xuanyuan with a scowl and turned to Li Fusu. Compared to the third brother, the fourth brother Li Fusu had always been more reliable. Among her brothers, he and the seventh were the only ones she could actually hold a conversation with. "Fourth Brother, you tell me!"
"You really won," Li Fusu said with a smile. "After you passed out, Wang Feng shocked everyone. He used a top-tier fourth-order Witchcraft spell, *Heavenly Disaster Fire Meteor*, to completely overwhelm Tianzhe Yifeng. Then, in the tiebreaker, he defeated Ye Dun, who had reached the *Shadow Dance* level, with the Path of War. A clean 3-2 comeback win!"
"Huh?" Winnie gaped, her mouth hanging open.
Wang Feng? Witchcraft? A fourth-order Witchcraft spell? And the Path of War? And Ye Dun at the *Shadow Dance* level? What in the world was all this?
Li Fusu went on to explain how Wang Feng defeated Tianzhe Yifeng, how the tournament committee struggled with the tiebreaker rules, and how Wang Feng ultimately triumphed over Ye Dun, who had mastered the *Heavenly Silkworm Transformation* and reached the *Shadow Dance* level.
If this had come from Li Xuanyuan, Winnie probably wouldn’t have believed it. But Li Fusu spoke clearly, hitting all the key points. Though his pace wasn’t fast, in just a few minutes, he laid out the entire sequence of events in a way that was easy to follow. Plus, he wasn’t one to lie.
Winnie felt a wave of relief wash over her. Rose really won!
And Old Wang did it by sheer strength, not some underhanded trick? That guy was actually this strong? No wonder Jiao Baba was so scared of him—guess a Spirit Beast’s sixth sense really is sharper... Good, good, good! Old Wang really is reliable. Didn’t betray my life-risking resolve. If that’s the case, even if I’m crippled, it was worth it!
"Now do you believe Third Brother wasn’t lying to you?" Li Xuanyuan laughed heartily. "I’m telling you, little sis, your Rose friends are hiding some serious depths! And that Wang Feng—what’s his deal? Being ridiculously strong is one thing, but his ambitions are even bigger. Even our Li family’s analysis division couldn’t see through him. You’ve been around him all this time—didn’t you notice anything?"
"Ahem..." Winnie coughed. What did he mean by "around him all this time"? Making it sound like she and Wang Feng were involved.
"It was pretty insane," Li Fusu nodded in agreement. "Wang Feng is downright crazy. He openly challenged the Holy Son in front of everyone. In all these years of the League of Blades, he’s the first to dare provoke the Holy City’s authority like that."
"Little sis, you must know about Wang Feng’s *Ghost Level* Class, right? Does he really have a way to get you all steadily to the ghost level?"
"What the—???" Winnie had no idea what these two were talking about. Wait—wasn’t she the one asking questions here? How did it turn into them interrogating her? And why did she suddenly feel so awkward?
"Little sis, those two Beastmen’s awakening—was that really Wang Feng’s doing?"
"What exactly does that *Ghost Level* Advanced Training Class entail? Wang Feng must’ve told you guys something, right?"
"This Wang Feng... he’s something else," Li Xuanyuan sighed. "He’s the League’s biggest sensation overnight."
"......" Winnie’s mouth hung open as she stared at her two brothers like she didn’t even recognize them.
Sure, she was interested in news about Wang Feng too, but... but your sister is lying here in this state, and not a single word of concern from you two? Instead, you’re just babbling nonstop—Wang Feng this, Wang Feng that. What the hell? Since when did I become some neglected, pitiful creature?
"Damn it, are you two even my real brothers?" Winnie was utterly dumbfounded, finally realizing why she’d felt so off earlier.
"What kind of nonsense is that? Of course we are!" Li Xuanyuan patted her head while continuing, "As for that Wang Feng, I’ve already observed—"
"Observe this, dumbass!" Winnie wanted to grab his head and bite him hard. Sure, she was tough, but whether she needed comfort was one thing—whether they gave it was another. How could they mix the two up? "Your actual sister! Me! The mighty Winnie Lee! I’m practically crippled here, and you two are chatting about someone else? Not even a word of comfort?!"
"Huh?" Li Xuanyuan and Li Fusu both froze, then suddenly understood. Li Xuanyuan burst out laughing. "Crippled? What crippled? You’re in the best shape ever! You even reached the ghost level because of this!"
Winnie Lee was stunned. Li Fusu also smiled and nodded. "The weakness and inability to use your soul power right now are normal. Your body was pushed beyond its limits, at breaking point. So I gave you the *Soul-Softening Golden Powder* to ease the pain and help with recovery."
"S-*Soul-Softening Golden Powder*?" Winnie’s mouth was now wide enough to fit a whole goose egg.
The *Soul-Softening Golden Powder* was the Li family’s secret potion. A single sniff would turn muscles, skin, and bones to jelly, paralyzing the whole body and even preventing soul power from circulating. It was originally a poison for ambushing enemies, but when used for pain relief, it worked wonders—with zero side effects.
This... As long as she could live properly, who in their right mind would want to be crippled?
"No fucking way! Seriously? You’re not messing with me, right?" Winnie was so excited she wanted to jump out of bed, but her body was still numb. Straining just left her feeling limp all over, yet it did nothing to dampen her excitement. She knew this potion like the back of her hand, and with just a little careful observation, she knew Li Fusu was telling the truth. "So, I'm really fine?!"
"You're fine," Li Xuanyuan laughed heartily. "Speaking of which, your relationship with Wang Feng must be something special. That bastard actually fed you his blood and pumped you full of potions. If it weren't for him, Fourth Brother and I probably wouldn’t have been able to patch you back together, let alone help you push your cultivation even higher."
"See? I fucking told you he’s the real deal!" Though she still couldn’t lift her hands or move her feet, Winnie’s eyes were shining brightly. At least her brothers wouldn’t lie to her now. She’d deal with Old Wang’s ass later. "Oh right, the hell’s this ‘Ghost Level Class’ nonsense you mentioned earlier? Hurry up and tell me what happened!"
This time, Li Xuanyuan didn’t need Li Fusu to step in. He vividly and dramatically recounted how Old Wang had confronted the Saint on stage, spicing it up like Wang Feng was some goddamn war hero falling from the sky, full of extraordinary momentum. "...I’ve never seen someone who could stir up so much trouble, one wave after another! And he even confronted the Saint—haha, Saint Roy looked ready to piss himself!"
"It wasn’t as exaggerated as Third Brother made it sound, but now the outside world is calling the younger generation 'The League’s Three Blades,'" Li Fusu said with a smile. "The Saint, Hei Wukai, and Wang Feng—that part is true. But then again, the conflict between the conservatives and the reformers is something even Grandfather avoids getting involved in. As a Holy Sanctuary disciple, Wang Feng stepping forward to take the lead was unwise. Even if Rose Thunder Dragon had planned this long ago, it shouldn’t have been Wang Feng who said it, let alone confronting the Saint directly. That was straight-up suicidal."
"He’s young! It’s normal to be a little arrogant!" This time, Li Xuanyuan disagreed with his younger brother. "Besides, he just wiped the floor with Zenith Holy Sanctuary—can’t he be a little proud?"
"He wasn’t being proud." Winnie Lee laughed, her complexion fully restored, and for the first time, she found Third Brother more endearing than Fourth Brother. "Hmph, as expected of someone I admire. Even I couldn’t out-talk him—who gives a rat’s ass about Saint Roy, anyway?"
The Li brothers were momentarily speechless. Li Fusu reminded her, "Little Sister, let me say this—this matter involves more than you think. You’d better keep a low profile... Staying at Rose is fine, but don’t directly jump in to help others fight their battles. Outsiders might see it as the Li family taking sides. If the old man forcibly drags you away from Rose, you won’t even get to watch from the sidelines."
"Fossil-brained chickenshits, what’s there to be afraid of?" Winnie scoffed. "Once Wang Feng’s Ghost Level Class is established, he’ll crank out a whole army of Ghost Levels in one go. Who’d dare not support us then?"
"......" The Li brothers were at a loss for words. This girl’s mouth had zero brakes.
Dozens of Ghost Levels?
Frankly, the Li family was already among the more optimistic about Rose. After all, they had witnessed how former weaklings like Fatso, Kela, and Wu Di had been nurtured into top-tier Holy Sanctuary disciples step by step. They highly praised and acknowledged this, believing Rose must truly have a method to help disciples advance quickly—perhaps even a stable way to reach the Ghost Level. But that would undoubtedly require massive resources. Since when does free lunch rain from the heavens?
The current "no fees" policy was clearly just to ease concerns and encourage participation. Once the Ghost Level Class truly began, even with the Lei family’s wealth, producing a few "free" Ghost Level experts would already be a considerable success. Dozens? That was pure fantasy—unless Rose’s Ghost Level Class later gained fame and stability, transitioning from free to paid. Then, maybe, just maybe, it could happen.
But would the Holy City really give Rose that much time to grow and develop?
This matter was far more complicated than it appeared on the surface. Even now, the enthusiasm from various factions had reached a point of near-uncontrollability—some even actively encouraged by the Holy City itself. "Rose says anyone can join, right? Then naturally, you can’t accept the Zhang family’s disciples while rejecting the Li family’s—that’d be slapping your own face!" Let Rose run its Ghost Level Class, and let it grow as big as possible!
If Rose’s first Ghost Level Class really ended up with dozens or even hundreds of participants, where would they get the resources to train them all? By then, the outside world wouldn’t judge them by their successes but by their failures!
The surface-level excitement was a powder keg waiting to blow. The Holy City’s current silence, non-interference, and even subtle encouragement were the most cunning counterattack—setting Rose up to choke on its own ambitions.
Of course, there was no need to explain all this to Winnie. In short, while the Li family privately supported Rose, they could only remain public bystanders, avoiding deep involvement. Some truths were better left for their bullheaded little sister to blissfully bulldoze past.
