Chapter 39 Family Bliss (Part 1)
by 骑着蜗牛去旅行"Lin Xing, eat more." Dikalin put some food into Lin Xing's bowl.
"Lin Xing, this is your favorite, have more." Yana also added a helping of food for Lin Xing.
"Alright, alright, Lin Xing, come on, eat more." Lin Zhantian wasn't about to be left out either, immediately putting some food into Lin Xing's bowl.
Lin Xing couldn't help but feel helpless: "Okay, just let me eat. You all eat too." As he spoke, he served each person their favorite dishes.
Looking at the overflowing bowl of food, Lin Xing didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but he was deeply moved inside. He lowered his head and silently ate his meal.
Yana and the others watched Lin Xing eat with doting eyes. As soon as he finished, they promptly refilled his bowl.
Lin Xing, who was focused on eating, looked up and happened to meet their gazes. "You all eat too, or there won't be any left for you."
"Alright, alright, eat as much as you can." Yana simply smiled as she watched Lin Xing.
"Mother." Feeling a bit embarrassed under her gaze, Lin Xing put some food in Yana's bowl. "Mother, you eat too."
At the same time, Lin Xing served food to everyone else: "Grandma, Grandpa, Father, please, you all eat as well."
"Alright, alright, I'll eat. Let's all eat." Lin Wen said with a cheerful laugh.
Seeing this, Lin Xing couldn't help but smile slightly, suddenly feeling very content and warm. It had been a long time since he'd experienced such a warm, familial feeling.
"By the way, Lin Xing, you're already seven years old, but you look like a handsome young man. Do you have any plans for the future?"
What Lin Zhantian meant was that Lin Xing should go to an academy to receive an education, after all, academies have systematic teaching methods, and their libraries contain a wealth of knowledge.
However, if Lin Xing were to attend an academy, he would normally need to be at least ten years old. But for exceptionally talented individuals, academies could make exceptions and admit them early.
Given Lin Xing's status and aptitude, he could even enter the best academy on the continent right now!
"Plans? What plans?" Lin Xing hadn't quite caught on.
"Your father means, do you have any plans for now or the future?" Yana chimed in.
"Not really." Lin Xing scooped a mouthful of rice, answering carelessly without looking up.
Everyone fell silent. Indeed, Lin Xing was still just a child, a seven-year-old. Asking him about his future plans was a bit premature. It would be better for the adults to make arrangements for him.
"Really, no plans. I'm still young, after all." Lin Xing said absentmindedly.
"Then you should go to an academy to study soon, the best academy on our continent." Lin Zhantian suggested.
"Zhantian, Xing'er is still young. There's no need to rush." Yana couldn't bear to let Lin Xing leave and was reluctant to part with him.
"Go to an academy?" Lin Xing suddenly found it a bit amusing. Should he study magic or Battle Qi? He couldn't possibly study magic, could he? As for Battle Qi, who in the academy could even be his teacher?
Lin Xing's martial skills were already quite advanced. There were very few in the academy who could qualify as his teachers. However, the academy's library seemed to house many valuable books. It might be worth checking out.
But if he did that, it would completely contradict his own plans. He had originally intended to travel and gain experience on the continent. Although he had read many books about the continent, firsthand experience was far better. It would not only expand his knowledge but also aid his growth. Besides, the knowledge in the academy wasn't going anywhere—he could always go later.
"Soon, I want to travel and gain experience on the continent myself."
Lin Xing's words exploded like a heavy bomb in the ears of Lin Zhantian and the others, leaving them stunned. Only Lin Wen showed no reaction—Lin Xing had already discussed it with him earlier. He was just a bit surprised about when Lin Xing planned to leave.
"What? Xing'er, you said you want to travel and gain experience on the continent by yourself?" Yana asked in disbelief.
"Yes." Lin Xing looked at his mother and answered firmly.
"Oh, well, sooner or later you'll have to go out and gain experience. Only through experience will you truly mature! But isn't it a bit early for you to bring this up now? You still have over a decade before you come of age." Dikalin quickly responded.
Lin Xing looked at his father and the others, sensing that this idea would truly shock them. But once Lin Xing had made up his mind, he wouldn't change it. Whether he mentioned it now or later made no difference.
"Grandma, I mean I'll go out to gain experience soon, not wait until I come of age."
"What?" Dikalin and the others were truly shocked. After all, Lin Xing was only seven years old. For a seven-year-old to travel the continent alone was simply absurd and unbelievable to them.
"No, I absolutely disagree!" Yana was the first to object.
"That's right, I disagree too!" Dikalin also opposed. Lin Zhantian glanced at Lin Xing, then at Lin Wen, who had remained silent, and finally said, "I disagree as well. Lin Xing, you're still too young. What if something happens while you're out gaining experience?"
Lin Xing had anticipated this reaction, so he wasn't discouraged. He continued, "Grandma, Father, Mother..."
"Don't say anything more. I won't agree no matter what." Yana cut him off firmly, leaving no room for argument.
Lin Xing felt helpless but still persisted. "I have the ability..." Under Yana's stern gaze, he finished weakly, "to protect myself. Please believe me."
"What ability do you have? How old are you? I don't believe you're that powerful."
"Mother." Lin Xing tried to say more, but Yana gave him no chance to speak.
"You don't need to say anything. I absolutely won't agree to you going out to gain experience so early. If you want to go, wait until you come of age." Yana said, leaving no room for argument.
"That's right. If you want to gain experience, wait until you come of age." Lin Zhantian and Dikalin said in unison.
Lin Xing looked pleadingly at Lin Wen, who gave a knowing smile but showed no other expression. Lin Xing had no choice but to close his mouth in resignation.
However, Lin Xing wasn't disheartened. After all, he wasn't leaving immediately. There was plenty of time ahead—he could wear them down slowly until they agreed.
If all else failed, he could always run away from home, Lin Xing thought to himself.
"Alright, then I won't go." Not wanting to dampen the mood, Lin Xing changed the subject.
"Don't even think about sneaking out on your own!" Dikalin warned, still uneasy.
Lin Xing rolled his eyes. Was Grandma too clever? "I won't. I won't sneak out." Lin Xing said solemnly.
But who could tell if this was the truth or a lie?
"Alright, Lin Xing was just talking casually. Let's eat first, the food is getting cold." Lin Wen finally stepped in to smooth things over.
"That's right, let's eat." Lin Xing quickly took the hint and served dishes to Dikalin and the others.
"Hmph..." Dikalin still snorted in dissatisfaction.
"Grandma, have some food." Lin Xing said with an apologetic smile.
"Hmph, you know what's good for you." Dikalin snorted again.
Lin Xing just gave an awkward smile.
