Chapter 116: Perils on All Sides (Part 1)

Fortunately, the trees here were towering giants, and most Swift Wind Wolves couldn't climb them.

Lin Xing quickly scaled the tree trunk, getting out of range of most Wind Blades. Even though Wind Blades were low-level magic, everyone knows that enough ants can bring down an elephant. Facing that dense barrage shooting towards him, it was enough to send a chill down anyone's spine.

Finally, Lin Xing reached the treetop. Here, he was mostly out of reach of the Wind Blades, though occasional ones still shot up.

However, the five or six Swift Wind Wolves that could climb were now chasing him. With a front kick to a wolf's head, he sent it plummeting down. After snapping countless branches, it finally crashed to the ground with a heavy thud, crushing several wolves below.

The dazed wolf wobbled as it got to its feet. "Not dead?" Lin Xing was surprised. Surviving a fall from that height, it was incredibly resilient.

The fallen wolf struggled up, its green eyes glaring. It emitted a few low growls, then leaped, actually climbing the tree again.

Meanwhile, the other wolves launched their attacks. Magic and sharp claws assailed him in a blur of fierce attacks.

A Swift Wind Wolf distinguished by a red tuft on its forehead spat a string of Wind Blades at Lin Xing. As Lin Xing was distracted deflecting them, the wolf dug its front claws into a branch, using the leverage to launch itself through the air towards him. Before even getting close, its sharp claws were already weaving a blur of strikes.

Lin Xing swung his sword, swiftly batting away the Wind Blades shooting from all sides. Pushing off the branch with his foot, he used the momentum to leap backward.

The red-tufted wolf's pounce landed on empty air where Lin Xing had just stood. Seeing Lin Xing had leaped away, it pushed off the branch behind it, spat another string of Wind Blades, and lunged at him again.

At that moment, the other wolves also pounced from all sides. Lin Xing was cornered! Whichever way he moved, he would face their sharp claws!

Lin Xing's face grew grim, his eyes fixed on the wolf before him.

"Now!" Just as the wolves were about to strike, Lin Xing stamped down hard on the branch. With a "crack," the branch splintered, and Lin Xing leaped high into the air.

The moment Lin Xing jumped, the wolves all pounced onto his former spot. With a "boom," their massive forces collided, leaving the wolves stumbling.

Meanwhile, Lin Xing was already diving from the sky! "Swift Wind Break!" An Energy Blade of pure energy hummed with power as he slammed it down where the wolves stood.

"Crack, crack!" The tremendous energy instantly pulverized the branches. The wolves standing there, now without footing, were sent tumbling before plummeting down.

After unleashing that immensely powerful slash, Lin Xing also plummeted groundward like a meteor. Looking down at the dense pack of Swift Wind Wolves glaring up at him, poised to strike, he dared not imagine falling into their midst.

Just before impact, Lin Xing twisted his waist fiercely, his entire body flipping over in a bizarre maneuver. He angled diagonally towards another nearby tree.

The wolves on the ground saw Lin Xing veering away and, ignoring their fallen packmates, surged en masse towards his landing spot.

No sooner had Lin Xing regained his footing than he was greeted by another frenzied barrage of Wind Blades. With no choice, he leaped again to another tree, intending to escape the combat area.

The Wolf King, hidden within the pack, saw Lin Xing trying to flee. It raised its head and howled, and the Swift Wind Wolves redoubled their attacks.

The Wolf King's eyes glowed with an eerie red light. They flashed suddenly. Then, a black shadow flickered, and the Wolf King vanished.

In a phantom-like flash, it appeared behind Lin Xing, taking a vicious swipe at him.

Sensing the threat, Lin Xing was startled. He dodged hastily to the side, but a sharp pain shot through his back. He had avoided a vital hit, but the Wolf King's claw had torn his skin.

Lin Xing was shocked. It had penetrated his protective barrier and wounded him. Even though his barrier was still weak... Could it be? He looked ahead.

The Wolf King, seeing Lin Xing had dodged, was also surprised. It had estimated Lin Xing couldn't evade that strike, or would be severely hurt if he did. Yet it had only managed to scratch him, and upon contact, a layer of energy had blocked it, like a shield. Something similar to a barrier!

With a flip, the Wolf King landed steadily on a branch before Lin Xing, its eerie eyes staring strangely.

"The Wolf King! That speed..." Lin Xing's brow furrowed. Ordinary Swift Wind Wolves were already fast, but this Wolf King likely had the strength of at least a seventh-tier magical beast!

Seventh-tier strength, plus proficiency in speed, made things difficult. Lin Xing looked at the Wolf King, his brow slightly creased.

The Wolf King howled at him, its body crouching slightly. A black shadow flickered, and it pounced again.

Lin Xing's eyes narrowed sharply. He saw only a blur of black shadow flash before appearing right before him. Gripping his sword with both hands, he slashed straight ahead!

"Boom!" Lin Xing and the Wolf King collided fiercely. "Crack!" The branch under Lin Xing couldn't withstand the pressure and shattered. Lin Xing fell with it.

The Wolf King nimbly flipped mid-air and spat a string of Wind Blades at Lin Xing. These were several times larger than the ordinary wolves', their power and speed also multiplied. After releasing them, the Wolf King shot towards Lin Xing.

With a "thud," Lin Xing crashed hard onto the ground. He swept his sword horizontally, cleaving away several closing wolves while swinging to disperse the incoming Wind Blades. Protecting his body, he stomped hard on the ground with both feet, launching himself back upward.
