Chapter 82 The Mysterious Old Man
by 骑着蜗牛去旅行Chapter Two
"Any news?" Lin Xing couldn't help but grab Wang Lao's arm excitedly!
"Lin Xing, let go first. I'm old, my bones are loose—I can't take being grabbed like that." Lin Xing quickly released his grip, smiling awkwardly. "Sorry, Wang Lao, I got carried away in the moment..."
But Lin Xing's expression remained just as excited as he looked at Wang Lao.
"It's not that I know... Well, let me put it this way: I know where you can find information about this Divine Wind Sect," Wang Lao said, which thrilled Lin Xing.
"But they might not tell you." "What?" Lin Xing exclaimed. "How could that be? Then where exactly can I inquire?" Lin Xing asked urgently.
"Heh, don't get so worked up just yet. Even if you go to ask them, they might not tell you. Or you might need to offer something in exchange—that's their condition," Wang Lao said slowly, much to Lin Xing's exasperation.
"You need to be prepared to be turned down," Wang Lao went on and on.
Lin Xing rolled his eyes. How had he never known Wang Lao could be so long-winded?
"So, where is this place? What is it?" Lin Xing asked, pretending to be calm, though inside he was already going crazy.
"That place... actually, you know it too. It's quite famous on the continent; most people know of it. It's a massive organization, but precisely because it's such a large force, it's not easy to ask for their help. The cost is high, and they might not even agree. However, they definitely know many secrets."
Wang Lao continued with his lengthy, rambling explanation. On the surface, Lin Xing listened calmly, but inside he was already cursing and feeling utterly frantic.
After what felt like an eternity, Wang Lao finally stopped. Looking at Lin Xing, who was by now completely dumbfounded, he said apologetically, "Old folks get like this. It's been a long time since I've had anyone to talk to. Don't mind me."
He paused. "By the way, did you understand?"
"Huh? Oh, yes, I understood," Lin Xing replied casually. Then, snapping out of his daze, he asked, "What did you say, Wang Lao?"
"I asked if you understood what I just said." Lin Xing shook his head, looking completely confused. He hadn't been listening at all!
"Alright, let me explain again," Wang Lao said.
"No, please, don't. Just tell me where I can get this information," Lin Xing interrupted brusquely.
Wang Lao chuckled, not blaming him for cutting in. "Jufu Lou!"
"What? Jufu Lou?" Lin Xing exclaimed. Since when had Jufu Lou become an intelligence organization? But thinking about it, it wasn't surprising. A group that big must have its own intelligence network.
"Yes, Jufu Lou. You're aware of their influence, right?" Wang Lao asked.
Lin Xing nodded. "So how do I get information from them? Which branch should I go to?"
"Just go to any branch and find the person in charge. Generally, you can get information there. But before they tell you anything, you must have something of equal value to exchange."
"An exchange? Something of equal value?" That made sense to Lin Xing. Their information didn't come for free—it must have taken manpower and resources to obtain.
"If they require something of equal value, are there any specific requirements?" Lin Xing worried he had nothing to offer.
Wang Lao thought it over. "That's not fixed. It depends on the intelligence's level and their willingness. The higher the level, the higher the price, of course." Lin Xing nodded, understanding. Higher-level intelligence was harder to get.
"There's also another situation where you can ask for intelligence without paying," Wang Lao said mysteriously.
"What situation?" Lin Xing asked curiously.
"Those who possess their VIP membership card! They don't need to pay, as long as it's something obtainable," Wang Lao said, watching Lin Xing, expecting a reaction.
But Lin Xing's face remained blank. "A VIP membership card?" He thought of the card he'd gotten in Tianjing City, never used until now. He hadn't expected it to come in handy this time. Fortunately, he had it with him. Otherwise, he'd have no idea what Jufu Lou would demand for the Divine Wind Sect's information.
"Wang Lao, is that all?" The surprise and difficulty Wang Lao expected didn't appear. Lin Xing looked calm, even calmer than before.
"What? You're not surprised?" Now it was Wang Lao's turn. "Could he have a VIP card?" he wondered.
Lin Xing looked up. "What's so surprising about it?" He didn't know that without the card, he'd have shown exactly the expected expression.
Wang Lao was momentarily speechless. How could he ask why Lin Xing wasn't acting as predicted?
"By the way, Wang Lao, how do you know all this so clearly?" Lin Xing asked warily.
Seeing his caution, Wang Lao said with a bitter face, "Kid, you don't think I'm a bad person, do you?"
"Yes," Lin Xing nodded.
Wang Lao's pained expression deepened. "Don't worry, Lin Xing. I mean you no harm. If I were bad, I'd have killed you while you were unconscious. Why save you and let you fight me? As for my identity, that's a secret for now. You'll find out later." Wang Lao remained mysterious.
Lin Xing frowned, but he chose to trust the old man. It was an instinctive trust, an indescribable feeling that the other meant him no harm.
"Alright, I'll trust you," Lin Xing said indifferently. "But since you know so much, you'll have to tell me about this continent." Lin Xing's scheming streak emerged again. So that was his plan.
"This kid..." Wang Lao said, both amused and exasperated, but he still carefully explained some of the continent's hidden affairs to Lin Xing.
