Chapter 93 Encountering a Beauty
by 骑着蜗牛去旅行Chapter 93 Encountering a Beauty
"Miss, hurry up, we're already late," the maid Xiao Cui urged.
"Alright, alright, we won't be late. You're such a little girl, why are you always so impatient?" Caroline teased with a laugh.
"Miss, I just want to get there quickly to secure a good spot," Xiao Cui insisted.
"Okay, okay, we definitely won't be late," Caroline said with a smile, tapping Xiao Cui's forehead.
As they finished speaking, a group emerged at the mansion's gate—several servants and their young lady. Caroline and Xiao Cui walked at the front.
Caroline's father was the master of the grand mansion looming behind them. Her family was one of the prominent clans within the duchy, controlling most of its economy. And Caroline was his daughter!
Caroline had just turned ten, but she was mature for her age. With blonde hair and blue eyes, her youthful figure was already showing the promise of beauty, her skin soft and smooth, and her large eyes utterly adorable. Today, she wore a pink dress, appearing both cute and fresh, yet still elegant and noble.
The maid Xiao Cui, on the other hand, was clad entirely in green. At this moment, she was tugging Caroline's hand as she led her towards the carriage that had been prepared outside.
Just as Caroline was about to board the carriage, she suddenly heard a heavy "thud." She glanced towards the source of the sound out of the corner of her eye and saw a person lying motionless on the ground.
"Xiao Cui, go see what happened to that person," Caroline said to Xiao Cui.
"Let's not bother with him, Miss. He's probably just another vagrant," Xiao Cui said, a bit displeased, knowing her young mistress's compassion was surfacing again. "Besides, even if you save him this time, you can't save him the next."
"Xiao Cui!" Caroline glared at her unhappily. "How can you say that? Even if he is just a vagrant, so what? Any help is better than none. If you won't go, I will."
With that, Caroline walked over.
"Miss, Miss," Xiao Cui hurriedly chased after her and grabbed Caroline's arm. "I'll go take a look." She then hurried over. Reaching the person's side, Xiao Cui struggled to turn him over. Looking at his face, she saw he was someone a few years older than them. However, he didn't look like a vagrant at all.
Looking at the unconscious person, Xiao Cui felt for his breath. "Good, he's breathing! He's alive! Miss, Miss, come quickly!" Xiao Cui urgently called out.
"What is it?" Caroline quickly walked over. "This person seems injured. Look, he's covered in blood."
Caroline looked and indeed it was so. "Quickly, a few of you, carry this injured man inside for me."
"Miss? You're...?" Xiao Cui looked at Caroline, puzzled. "Of course, to save him. Are we just going to stand by and watch him die?" Caroline retorted, giving Xiao Cui a sidelong glance.
"But..." "But what?" Caroline couldn't help but give Xiao Cui a reproachful look.
"But, what if he dies in our mansion? What if he's being chased by enemies? What if they find out we saved him?"
"Must you worry so much! Even if that's the case, we save the person first," Caroline said, clearly a bit displeased.
"You there, quickly carry him inside!" Caroline commanded several servants.
Afterwards, Caroline followed them inside. "Miss, Miss, aren't you going to the city anymore?" Xiao Cui blurted out anxiously.
Caroline glared at her. "Saving the person comes first." "Oh," Xiao Cui replied listlessly, her face clearly unhappy. Yet, she also knew that once her young mistress decided something, it was very difficult to change.
Some time later, Lin Xing's consciousness slowly returned to his body. As soon as he regained awareness, Lin Xing felt intense pain throughout his entire body and couldn't help but groan in pain.
At that moment, Lin Xing heard a voice. "Miss, Miss, this person is reacting. It seems like he's about to wake up." Xiao Cui had been sitting on a chair beside Lin Xing's bed, dozing off! But suddenly, she seemed to hear the person on the bed make a sound. Startled, she immediately called out.
In his dazed state, Lin Xing seemed to hear a patter of light footsteps approaching his side. "Xiao Cui, didn't you say he woke up? Why is he still like this?" Caroline couldn't help but ask, a bit disappointed.
"I heard him make a sound! Hey, hey, since you're awake, stop pretending! Open your eyes quickly!" Xiao Cui actually spoke directly to the person on the bed.
However, the person lying on the bed showed no reaction, his eyes still tightly shut.
"This person is severely injured, but we don't know what kind of injury it is. It's been so many days, and he's still unconscious," Caroline said softly.
"Miss, do you think this person... might die?" Xiao Cui suddenly asked.
"Die?" Caroline was taken aback; she had never considered that question. "He won't die, will he? Although he's severely injured, his breathing is still steady and normal. He's just in a coma. I don't think he'll die," Caroline said, though she sounded uncertain.
"What if he does die?" Xiao Cui asked.
Caroline glared at Xiao Cui. "He's still alive and well, just unconscious. Why do you keep sounding like you're cursing him to die? It's as if you wish he were dead?"
"Who told him to appear right in front of us just as we were about to go to the city?" Xiao Cui said, still sounding quite resentful.
"You little girl, you're still holding a grudge about that, huh?" Caroline couldn't help but tap Xiao Cui's head with her finger, scolding her with a laugh. For a moment, the mistress and maid playfully bantered and teased each other.
Listening to the noise outside with both ears, Lin Xing struggled to open his long-closed eyes. But his eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, hanging over his eyes. No matter how hard Lin Xing tried, he just couldn't open them.
While struggling to open his eyes, he also checked his own body. Upon checking, Lin Xing was startled by his own condition. His Zhen Qi was less than ten percent of its usual level. Looking again at the vortex of Zhen Qi in his dantian, it was still there. Lin Xing breathed a sigh of relief. Although the vortex rotated extremely slowly, it was still present.
Looking further at his body, it now seemed riddled with holes. His Meridians were injured, and his body was damaged. Although his Zhen Qi was continuously repairing it, with such weak Zhen Qi, the repair speed was also extremely slow.
Lin Xing sighed and could only guide that weak Zhen Qi to repair his severely damaged body.
Several more days passed like this. On this day, Lin Xing awoke from his meditative state, feeling that he could finally open his eyes. So, he slowly opened them.
His first reaction upon opening his eyes was that the light outside was too bright. Lin Xing squinted them shut again. After a while, when his eyes had slightly adjusted, he opened them once more.
He found himself looking at the face of a beautiful girl! Lin Xing was startled, almost crying out in surprise.
