Chapter 119: The Hunt (Part 1)
by 骑着蜗牛去旅行Chapter 119: Hunting
Having shaken off the Wolf King, Lin Xing continued to dart forward at high speed. Wolves were so cunning that Lin Xing still feared the Wolf King might be tricking him.
Finally, Lin Xing had put a great distance between himself and the combat zone. Only after getting far away could Lin Xing turn his attention to his own body, realizing the searing pain wracking his entire body.
Lin Xing looked down at himself. His clothes were now tattered, reduced to ragged strips hanging from him, all stained with blood—though most of it was the Swift Wind Wolves' blood.
Looking at the wounds slashed open by the Swift Wind Wolves, although they were only flesh wounds that hadn't reached the bones or tendons, some were deep enough to expose the bone.
He looked at the wounds, some so deep the bone was visible. Blood kept seeping out. The pink flesh on either side of the wounds had been peeled back, and he could even see the white bone inside.
Pausing to listen for any sign of pursuit, Lin Xing leapt into motion again and soon arrived at a clear small river. He planned to clean his wounds.
Slowly tearing off the cloth strips stuck to his wounds, the pain was so intense Lin Xing gritted his teeth. Only after a long time did he finally manage to peel the blood-crusted cloth from his wounds. He then began cleaning them with river water.
It was a long time before Lin Xing finished cleaning his wounds, but this process had drained him mentally. By the end, cold sweat was beading on his face from the pain!
Having tended to his wounds, Lin Xing found a clean cave, entered it, and immediately sat down in meditation to recover his Zhen Qi.
This battle had also taken a significant toll on Lin Xing, especially his Zhen Qi. Due to his earlier injuries, his recently attained Saint Level power was once again suppressed, remaining at the Great Sword Master level. This was also why Lin Xing had such a hard time with the wolf pack.
Under the monstrous regenerative power of the Nine Yang Divine Art, within a few days, the wounds on Lin Xing's body had already scabbed over, fallen off, and finally healed completely. It was as if he had never been injured there at all.
Simultaneously, after this battle, the Zhen Qi within Lin Xing's body had also become slightly more refined. However, there was still a considerable distance to go before he could restore his Saint Level capabilities. Lin Xing could do nothing about it.
On this day, Lin Xing left the cave and continued along the forest, heading deeper into the Demonic Beast Forest.
This time, Lin Xing was much more cautious. Whenever he encountered any pack animals, he would carefully avoid them. He had no desire to repeat an incident like the last one.
On this day, Lin Xing had just reached a hilltop when he heard people talking ahead. Hearing voices wasn't strange to him. However, Lin Xing still didn't want to run into any trouble, so he intended to detour. But then he stopped again because he felt the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
Lin Xing thought about it. This familiar voice definitely didn't belong to a friend, so it could only be the voice of an enemy. Cautiously, Lin Xing began to stealthily creep closer while staying hidden.
"It really is an acquaintance!" Lin Xing peered out and saw six people walking into the forest. Among them, four wore the familiar garb of the Divine Wind Sect. And the voice that sounded familiar was indeed Yamazaki.
The other two were dressed entirely in black robes and held staffs, likely mages. However, they weren't speaking, and he didn't know who they were.
"So it's Yamazaki, no wonder the voice sounded familiar. This just got interesting," Lin Xing said to himself.
For some reason, Lin Xing felt instant dislike upon seeing people from the Divine Wind Sect. Perhaps that was the impression they gave everyone on the continent. They were notorious, even more detestable than the terrifying Dark Church. Lin Xing was no exception.
The Divine Wind Sect... A faint, cold smile curled at the corner of Lin Xing's mouth. A plan was already taking shape in his mind. Immediately, Lin Xing held his breath, suppressed his aura, and carefully began tailing this group.
Yamazaki was someone Lin Xing had to kill, and the Divine Wind Sect also had to be eradicated. This was part of Lin Xing's plan. Once the time was ripe, he would not hesitate to wipe out the Divine Wind Sect. Their existence was already causing significant harm. Unless they were removed, Lin Xing would never feel at ease.
While tailing them, Lin Xing also wanted to eavesdrop on their secrets. However, even with no outsiders present, they never mentioned such matters. The two black-robed men didn't speak a single word.
Finally, the sky gradually darkened. Night was falling.
They, too, finally stopped traveling and settled in one spot. It seemed they would be camping here for the night. Seeing them prepare to camp, Lin Xing felt a thrill of anticipation.
The sky finally turned completely dark. Yamazaki and the others lit a campfire, and the six of them sat around it to rest.
Seeing them all sitting there, Lin Xing couldn't help but feel a bit anxious. If things continued like this, wouldn't his plan have no chance of succeeding?
But then, Lin Xing's eyes lit up as he stared at Yamazaki and the others.
By the campfire, one of the Divine Wind Sect members suddenly stood up and walked away from the fire, heading in Lin Xing's direction.
"Kali! Where are you going?" It seemed Yamazaki was still their leader, as he asked when he saw Kali leaving.
"I'm going to relieve myself, sir," Kali said, bowing to Yamazaki. Yamazaki nodded.
Seeing Kali walking towards him, Lin Xing quickly retreated and concealed himself.
Perhaps Kali didn't want to disturb the others. He walked quite a distance towards Lin Xing's hiding spot, until he could no longer see them. Kali arrived near Lin Xing, undid his pants, and squatted down.
Suddenly, Kali felt a chill on his neck. A blade was pressed against it. Startled, he was about to react when he felt the blade tighten against his neck, causing a sharp pain.
"Don't move! Don't speak! If you want to live, you'll obediently listen to me. Otherwise, you can try whether your speed is faster or my blade is faster."
Kali was so frightened that he even forgot his original intention. He remained motionless, squatting there. It wasn't that he didn't want to move; he couldn't. Every time he moved, Lin Xing's blade pressed another fraction into his flesh.
"Speak. What are you all searching for here?" Lin Xing slightly moved the blade away.
"I don't know," Kali started to shake his head but remembered the blade at his neck and immediately stopped moving, only managing to speak.
"You don't know? Then why are you here?" Lin Xing didn't hold much hope for these minor characters.
"We came in to search for something, but we don't know what we're looking for," Kali now answered every question without fail.
"Then, where are you supposed to look for this thing? Or where does this thing appear? Also, what are the identities of those two black-robed men in your group?" Lin Xing asked all these questions in one breath.
"Where it appears, we don't know. I only know the orders from above were to go to the deepest part of the Demonic Beast Forest. Those two are from the Dark Church," Kali said quickly.
"The deepest part of the Demonic Beast Forest... the Dark Church... So the Divine Wind Sect has actually joined forces with the Dark Church. What conspiracy do they have?" Lin Xing thought to himself.
This Kali was of no further use. Lin Xing withdrew the blade and struck Kali's crown with his palm. Without even a grunt, Kali slowly collapsed and died. Lin Xing kicked Kali's corpse into the underbrush.
