Chapter 018 【One Against Five】
by"Teacher, I forgot to mention earlier—it's five of us against you alone!" Big Shark, seeing Gu Feng agree, broke into a triumphant grin. He then waved to the players behind him and said, "Everyone, bring your A-game! Don't let the teacher down!"
The other four players chuckled at Big Shark's words and moved to one end of the court, while Tian Tao led the four girls up to the bleachers.
Gu Feng took off his windbreaker, revealing his muscular physique. His bronzed muscles instantly caught the attention of the four girls. However, when they saw the drab beige tank top he was wearing underneath, they couldn't help but show looks of disdain.
"This guy is so tacky."
"Exactly, what a waste of a good body, wearing such unfashionable clothes."
...
As the girls chattered, Tian Tao took out a digital camera from his backpack and smiled elegantly. "Now, let's watch Big Shark and his crew perform. I can't wait to see the buzz on the school forum tomorrow. Pictures of a muscle-bound teacher getting humiliated—what juicy gossip!"
"Four-eyed Frog, with those five guys on the court dealing with that country bumpkin, why do we have to stay just so you can take pictures?" the student who had spoken to Gu Feng earlier complained, clearly unhappy.
Tian Tao gently adjusted his glasses and smiled. "You just don't get it, do you? Having you four beauties here serves two purposes: it distracts the guy, and it'll make him sweat! Think about it—how intense would it be if he didn't break a sweat?"
Hearing Tian Tao's explanation, the girls fell silent. Their purpose for being here today was to put Gu Feng in his place, and the worse his outcome, the better.
Under the watchful eyes of the five, Gu Feng placed his jacket on a seat outside the court and walked onto the basketball court.
Big Shark and his four teammates had already lined up. Seeing Gu Feng enter, Big Shark said, "Teacher, you're older than us, so you take the first possession."
Hearing Big Shark's words, a wry smile appeared on Gu Feng's otherwise serious face. Perhaps for these students, they truly didn't understand the meaning of shamelessness. Compared to who got the ball first, five against one was already an enormous advantage.
This was a game without a referee. Gu Feng understood that these five students weren't really interested in testing his basketball skills—they just wanted to humiliate him. Although he didn't know exactly how they planned to do it, his face showed no trace of fear. He wore an expression of readiness, as if prepared to meet any challenge head-on.
Gu Feng caught the basketball Big Shark tossed to him and gently shook his neck. Instantly, a series of pops and cracks echoed through the gymnasium.
The sudden noise startled the five players on the court, but they quickly regained their composure, their faces breaking into mocking smirks.
Without wasting words, Gu Feng loosened up briefly and then dribbled past the half-court line.
Seeing Gu Feng cross half-court, Big Shark sneered and stepped up to guard him.
Big Shark was tall and hefty, weighing over 180 pounds—a real heavyweight. It was because of his size and his resemblance to the American basketball star Shaquille O'Neal that he'd earned the nickname "Big Shark."
As he closed in on Gu Feng, Big Shark suddenly accelerated, raising his elbow as he charged toward him.
Just from Big Shark's actions, it was clear he wasn't going for the ball—he was aiming for a blatant foul.
Gu Feng dribbled at high speed, racing toward Big Shark. Just as they were about to collide, Gu Feng planted his foot and pivoted away.
Big Shark hadn't expected Gu Feng to stop so suddenly at full speed. He was momentarily stunned, and then, carried by his own momentum, he shot past Gu Feng like a runaway train, stumbling out of bounds.
Everyone in the gym had been expecting to see Gu Feng get knocked flying by Big Shark. Now, seeing Big Shark charge out of bounds like an idiot, they all swore.
"Big Shark, you idiot!"
"Are you a damn train? Once you start, you can't stop!"
...
Tian Tao, who had already adjusted his camera angle for the shot, shook his head and sighed as he watched Big Shark careen out of bounds. "Some people never learn."
Seizing the moment while the other four players were still stunned, Gu Feng quickly accelerated. Under their watchful eyes, he drove to the basket for a layup, and the ball swished through the net.
Big Shark finally managed to steady himself. Seeing Gu Feng score, he angrily shook his fist. "What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and inbound the ball!"
As he spoke, he ran back onto the court, his heavy footsteps echoing loudly in the quiet gymnasium.
Gu Feng quickly retreated to near the three-point line on his side of the court, ready to play defense. Meanwhile, following Big Shark's order, one of the players quickly inbounded the ball, and the five of them charged toward Gu Feng with aggressive momentum. Unlike Chen Xu from Class 3-7, the four players led by Big Shark didn't know how to play basketball at all—their dribbling form was awkward and unnatural.
"I'll box him out; you guys just shoot!" Big Shark issued another command, glaring fiercely at Gu Feng as he spoke, as if trying to salvage his pride.
Realizing that none of the five could actually play basketball, Gu Feng remained unfazed by their charge. As they approached his three-point area, he made a move as if he were about to aggressively steal the ball.
The player dribbling the ball was startled by Gu Feng's intimidating expression and, in a moment of panic, accidentally threw the ball out of bounds.
Up in the bleachers, Tian Tao and the four girls had been hoping to see Big Shark and his crew redeem themselves. Seeing the guy get so scared he threw the ball out of bounds, they immediately started booing.
"Are you out of your mind?" The booing made Big Shark uncomfortable, and he angrily cursed at his teammate.
The guy who had thrown the ball out of bounds seemed timid. Hearing Big Shark's scolding, he hung his head, not daring to speak.
Since Gu Feng was the only player on his team, he simply retrieved the ball and brought it back inbounds, restarting the game.
For the next five minutes, relying on his incredible physical fitness and solid basketball skills, Gu Feng single-handedly took on Big Shark and his four teammates—layups, jump shots, three-pointers, steals, blocks...
*Boom!* When Gu Feng slammed the ball through the hoop with a powerful dunk, the entire gymnasium fell eerily silent.
Gu Feng's performance left everyone—Big Shark on the court and Tian Tao and the others off it—utterly astonished. It was the first time they had ever witnessed a dunk like those seen in NBA games.
During the past five minutes, the Class 4-8 basketball team, led by Big Shark, had repeatedly thrown elbows at Gu Feng. To their frustration, Gu Feng's body felt like a steel plate—hard and unyielding. Whether Gu Feng felt any pain was unknown, but they certainly were hurting.
"Time to use the ultimate move!" Seeing Gu Feng return to his half of the court and noticing his teammates' ashen faces, Big Shark gritted his teeth and declared.
