Chapter 032 【Smoking in the Classroom】
byWhen Gu Feng arrived at the office, some teachers had already left for class. Fatty Qi was glued to the computer screen, eyes wide, at the racy images. The gossip queen Wu Xue was engrossed in an entertainment magazine, reading with great interest. Xia Wei rested her chin in one hand, gazing out the window in a daze.
Hu Hua held a cigarette between his fingers, wearing a smug, gloating smile. Seeing Gu Feng enter the office, he greeted him with a grin, "Teacher Gu, have you been to introduce yourself to your students yet?"
"No," Gu Feng shot Hu Hua a sidelong glance, his tone ice-cold.
"Teacher Gu, I must say I feel sorry for you. You've only been here a few days and already got transferred to Class 8, Grade 4," Fatty Qi remarked, his eyes glued to the computer screen where a Japanese AV actress in a nurse's uniform was displayed, not even bothering to turn his head.
"Fatty, you're a teacher, for crying out loud. Can't you pay a little attention to your image?" Wu Xue, hearing Fatty Qi's words, couldn't help but jab at him. "If your students found out you're a pervert, would you even be able to show your face to keep teaching?"
"What's wrong with being a teacher? Everyone has desires; mine are just a bit stronger, that's all," Fatty Qi retorted dismissively. However, when he saw Wu Xue's angry expression, he seemed to realize something. Glancing at Xia Wei's lonely figure, he dropped the topic of Class 8, Grade 4.
Gu Feng didn't go straight over to Xia Wei. Instead, he first returned to his seat.
Although he couldn't see Xia Wei's face, Gu Feng could pick up on her feeling of disappointment.
The morning sunlight streamed through the windowpane, illuminating Xia Wei's beautiful long hair. She remained motionless, simply staring blankly outside.
After about ten minutes, Xia Wei snapped out of her trance. Turning to look at Gu Feng, she adjusted her expression, picked up a thick stack of documents from her desk, and walked over to him. "Teacher Gu, these are the student records for Class 8, Grade 4. I've organized them for you."
"Thank you, Teacher Xia," Gu Feng stood up, glancing at Xia Wei's troubled expression. After a moment's thought, he added, "Teacher Xia, the students of Class 8, Grade 4 will always be your students. In the future, if there's anything I don't understand, please give me some pointers."
Xia Wei understood the intention behind Gu Feng's words and was slightly moved. She forced a smile and nodded, the furrow in her brow finally relaxing.
From a distance, Hu Hua watched all of this. The smile on his face instantly vanished, his eyes narrowing as he began scheming something in his mind.
After Xia Wei turned and left, Gu Feng picked up the documents and began carefully reviewing them.
It had to be said that Xia Wei was a meticulous teacher. She had organized the records of every student in Class 8, Grade 4 in great detail. Two hours later, Gu Feng finally finished reading through the material.
After reviewing the documents, Gu Feng's understanding of Class 8, Grade 4 reached a new level. The students in this class came from affluent families and were particularly rebellious, which was their biggest difference from students in other classes. Among them, a few individuals required special attention.
The first was Ling Wei, who currently wanted to become Gu Feng's disciple. Next was a student named Yang Bing, whose father was the chairman of a major corporation and whose mother worked in a government department—their influence was anything but ordinary. The last student to watch out for was named Xu Qiang. His family circumstances were very poor. According to Xia Wei's notes, he had only shown up at school on the registration day since the semester started and hadn't been seen on campus since.
In response, Gu Feng made his first decision: to visit Xu Qiang's home. For a middle school student to have attended only one day of class in over a month since the semester began was simply unacceptable.
Putting down the documents, Gu Feng glanced at his watch. It was 10 a.m., exactly the time for the break between classes. After a moment's thought, he got up, left the office, and headed toward the classroom of Class 8, Grade 4.
During break time, the campus was particularly lively. The hallways were filled with students chasing and horsing around. Some students stood in small groups of three or five, chatting about topics unrelated to school.
At the entrance of the Class 8, Grade 4 classroom, Guan Mingyue and several girls were gathered, discussing the latest fashions from the Milan Fashion Week. Big Shark, meanwhile, was with a group of boys, talking about the day's latest NBA results.
Seeing Gu Feng approaching the classroom, everyone turned their attention toward him. The students of Class 8, Grade 4 had already received the news that Gu Feng was to become their new homeroom teacher. Last time, when Gu Feng left, he had issued a challenge to the class, which had displeased the students. Now that Gu Feng was their new homeroom teacher, almost all the students were prepared to give him a hard time.
Big Shark had a good impression of Gu Feng and initially wanted to greet him. However, seeing the hostility from the other students, he decided against it.
When Gu Feng reached the classroom entrance, he was met with the sight of six or seven boys sitting at the back desks, smoking up a storm. The classroom ceiling was shrouded in a haze of smoke.
In the entire classroom, apart from those smoking boys, only Tian Tao and two other boys were bragging about something.
"Teacher Gu, you're here," Tian Tao said, as gentlemanly as ever, with that ever-present elegant smile on his lips.
The students who had been smoking, upon hearing Tian Tao's words, all turned their gazes toward the classroom entrance. Among them were Ling Wei and Yang Bing.
Seeing Gu Feng standing at the classroom door with a grim expression, Ling Wei instinctively stubbed out his cigarette.
"What's wrong, Ling Wei? Scared of that guy now?" Yang Bing, noticing Ling Wei's action, curled his lips into a mocking smile. He then blew a puff of smoke toward Gu Feng, as if to taunt him.
"Yang Bing, watch your mouth," Ling Wei shot Yang Bing a cold glance, then looked somewhat timidly at Gu Feng before wisely moving to his own seat.
Gu Feng entered the classroom with a dark expression, slowly walking toward the six boys led by Yang Bing.
Seeing Gu Feng's approach, the six boys, led by Yang Bing, didn't stub out their cigarettes. Instead, they looked at him provocatively.
"Put out your cigarettes," Gu Feng said calmly as he stopped before the six of them.
"Teacher, smoking is a personal hobby. You can't interfere with our personal hobbies," a boy with an afro retorted unhappily.
"That's right," the other five chimed in.
"This is a classroom. The school explicitly prohibits smoking on campus," Gu Feng patiently explained, then suddenly raised his voice. "Put out those cigarettes!"
Except for Yang Bing, the others were startled by Gu Feng's shout. One student even instinctively dropped his cigarette.
"Teacher Gu, a friendly reminder: if you lay a hand on us, we can sue you," Yang Bing's face was filled with utter contempt. He didn't put out his cigarette; instead, he took a leisurely drag.
