Chapter 124 【Dug the Pit, Waiting for Your Fall】
by 我本瘋狂The rain grew heavier, pattering steadily on surfaces.
At the entrance of the Ling family villa, Ah Wei held an umbrella for Biao Zi, shielding him from the rain. Across from Biao Zi, the police superintendent named Chen Zhi squinted, staring at Biao Zi's blank face. "Are you sure your men won't start trouble?" he asked.
"Positive," Biao Zi replied expressionlessly, nodding.
Chen Zhi frowned, thought it over for a few seconds. Then he looked up at the police officers around him, their clothes soaked by the rain, and nodded. "Alright, I'll pull them back now. But if your men cause any trouble tonight, I'll throw you in jail tomorrow."
He ordered all personnel to retreat.
Chen Zhi's command made the officers heave a collective sigh of relief. No one wanted to stand in the rain like an idiot.
They were only there because they had to be. With Ling Yongbing and the four Red Star Gang hall masters killed, if they didn't suppress the Red Star members, retaliation would throw Hong Kong into chaos, a situation that would spiral out of control—something the Hong Kong police wanted to avoid at all costs.
Of course, the police didn't want to fully antagonize the Red Star Gang; they just wanted to prevent the situation from getting out of hand. So, when Biao Zi stepped forward and promised the Red Star members wouldn't cause trouble, Chen Zhi ordered the retreat.
Clearly, Chen Zhi knew exactly who Biao Zi was. At this moment, only Biao Zi's guarantee was the only one he'd believe; he wouldn't trust anyone else, believing others didn't have the clout.
In fact, Biao Zi was acting on orders from Gu Feng.
Returning to the villa, Biao Zi said to Gu Feng, "Mr. Gu, the police have all withdrawn."
Hearing this, Gu Feng let out a slight sigh of relief and stood up, preparing to leave.
"Aren't we going to do anything at all?" Biao Zi asked, noticing Gu Feng's intention to leave.
"Although the police at the entrance have withdrawn, they'll definitely leave a few people to keep an eye on you. The situation's such a mess right now. The police will be watching you and your men closely. Under these circumstances, not only can you not get revenge, but you'd probably get picked up by the cops the moment you step out to handle business." Gu Feng sighed, then looked at Biao Zi. "The police aren't watching me right now, Biao Zi. Trust me. Within three days, I'll use Ah Jie and those Thais' heads to avenge Mr. Ling and the others."
Biao Zi said nothing, nodded silently.
Then, Gu Feng drove away alone from the Ling family villa. At the villa entrance, he spotted several police officers lurking in the shadows, observing the movements at the gate.
Gu Feng paid them no mind and just drove away.
Meanwhile, the officers staked out near the Ling family villa immediately took out their phones to report to their superiors.
A few minutes later, they received word from above: the person who left was Gu Feng, nothing to worry about.
Once he was a good distance from the Ling family villa, Gu Feng took out his phone and dialed his old boss.
The phone rang for a while before it was answered. A slightly displeased voice came through the receiver: "Kid, what time is it? Calling to disturb me at this hour?"
"Sir, there's something I need to ask you," Gu Feng said, somewhat embarrassed. It was past two in the morning, indeed very late.
"Speak!"
"What exactly is the higher-ups' bottom line?" Gu Feng asked seriously. "In other words, how much chaos are they willing to allow in Hong Kong?"
"Chaos isn't the issue; the key is to make something out of it," the old boss thought for a moment. "If you can turn the chaos into an opportunity, I can cover for you. Of course, if you stir up trouble without achieving anything, you'll face consequences."
"Understood. I apologize for disturbing you so late," Gu Feng said, picking up on the underlying message in his old boss's words.
"Since when did you become so polite, kid?" The old boss chuckled, then turned serious. "I heard you crippled a South Korean Taekwondo master named Li Dongguo?"
"Yes," Gu Feng replied, frowning slightly, unsure why his old boss brought this up.
"That Li Dongguo has a close relationship with Kim Tae-hwa from the South Korean San Yuan Gang. And you also injured Kim Tae-hwa's son. Kim Tae-hwa probably won't let this slide," the old boss warned. "However, I think it's unlikely Kim Tae-hwa will come after you himself. He might use local Hong Kong gangs instead, so watch your back."
After ending the call with his old boss, Gu Feng drove while pondering the conversation.
Before hanging up, the old boss told Gu Feng that, unless something changes, Xiang Tianhua would likely use Shui Lian Gang assassins to deal with him.
After thinking for a few minutes, Gu Feng picked up the phone again and dialed Chen Yuan's number.
The call lasted about two minutes. Gu Feng outlined his plan to Chen Yuan and instructed her to make the arrangements.
After hanging up, Gu Feng floored the accelerator. The high-performance Mercedes roared to life, splashing through puddles before disappearing into the darkness.
When Gu Feng drove to Pearl Apartments, the complex was quiet. Since the next day was Saturday, some residents were still awake, and lights were on in several apartments, including Gu Feng and Lin Jiaying's unit.
Looking at the faint glow, Gu Feng sighed softly and quickly got out of the car.
Arriving at his door, he gently opened it to find Lin Jiaying asleep on the sofa, clutching a turtle-shaped pillow.
In the living room, the TV was still on, playing a third-rate soap opera.
Gu Feng changed his shoes, walked quietly to the coffee table, picked up the remote, turned off the TV, then bent down to pick up Lin Jiaying.
In her sleep, Lin Jiaying seemed to sense something. She slowly opened her drowsy eyes, rubbed them lightly, and upon seeing Gu Feng, mumbled sleepily, "You're back."
"Jia Ying, if I don't come back in the future, don't wait for me. Go to sleep first. The weather's getting cooler; sleeping on the sofa can easily lead to a cold." Looking at Lin Jiaying's sleepy face, Gu Feng felt a pang of guilt.
Lin Jiaying shook her head. "I meant to wait for you to come back before sleeping, but I ended up falling asleep lying here."
"Alright, go to sleep now," Gu Feng said.
"No, carry me to bed," Lin Jiaying waved her hand, pouting playfully.
Without a word, Gu Feng reached out, wrapped his arms around Lin Jiaying's slender waist, and lifted her up.
Lin Jiaying tightly wrapped her arms around Gu Feng's neck, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him with a smile. "Gu Feng, you know what? You were so cool today!"
Before Gu Feng could respond, she quickly kissed him on the cheek and continued, "That Korean guy was so despicable! You have no idea how angry we all were. When you took him down, everyone cheered for you!"
Feeling the lingering fragrance on his cheek, Gu Feng wasn't in the mood to savor it. Too much had happened from the afternoon until now, leaving him feeling exhausted.
However, Lin Jiaying didn't notice this and kept chattering: "I've decided, from now on, I won't buy any Korean-style clothes anymore, and I won't watch any Korean dramas either..."
Lin Jiaying rambled on like a standard anti-Korean activist, vowing to avoid anything related to South Korea from now on.
Gu Feng couldn't help but smile wryly. "Alright, Jia Ying, go to sleep now. It's late."
"Hold me while I sleep. I feel more comfortable resting my head on your arm," Lin Jiaying said softly, lowering her head.
It seemed she had grown fond of sleeping while being held by Gu Feng.
Gu Feng nodded gently. "You sleep first. I'm going to take a shower."
By the time Gu Feng finished his shower and returned to the bedroom, Lin Jiaying was already asleep. Gu Feng quietly closed the door and went to another room.
Early in the morning, Gu Feng woke up on time as usual.
He washed his face, brushed his teeth, completed his routine quickly, changed into his workout clothes, tucked the Italian-made Beretta 92F pistol into his waistband, put on his wireless earpiece, and left home.
Although it was almost October, there were still quite a few elderly people exercising in the apartment complex's courtyard in the early morning.
"Stone, are you all in position?" Gu Feng asked into the radio as he walked, instead of running straight out of the apartment complex as usual.
"Reporting, Captain. Both street exits are blocked, and the high ground is secured. If they come, even if they grow wings, they won't escape," Da Shitou's voice came through the earpiece. "Good, stay focused," Gu Feng ended the call and began jogging slowly toward the apartment exit.
Perhaps due to the rain, the air was exceptionally fresh, and a seven-colored rainbow hung on the distant horizon, a real beauty.
However, Gu Feng had no mood to admire the rainbow. Instead, he jogged while carefully observing his surroundings.
Yesterday, after his former superior told him that Xiang Tianhua might use assassins from the Shui Lian Gang to deal with him, Gu Feng analyzed the situation and concluded that his old boss was very likely right.
First, he had a grudge with the Shui Lian Gang. Second, Zhou Jingming wanted him dead, and as a businessman, Zhou could only turn to Xiang Tianhua's men. As for the final reason, Xiang Tianhua was notorious for his cunning; if he were to take action, he would definitely use external forces.
After reaching this conclusion, Gu Feng set up a trap, specifically waiting for the Shui Lian Gang assassins to fall into it.
Assassination was an area Gu Feng excelled in. He understood that for an assassin to kill a target, the first step was to gather information about the target and then understand their habits based on that information.
Everyone had their own unique habits. For example, some Hong Kong big shots would pay respects to Guan Yu at specific times.
Assassins would choose a location where the target appeared daily, based on their habits, to carry out the assassination.
Since arriving in Hong Kong, Gu Feng's routine hadn't been very fixed. Apart from his daily morning jog for exercise, he didn't have any other set habits.
Therefore, Gu Feng guessed that if the Shui Lian Gang assassins were to strike, it could only be during his morning jog.
"Captain Gu, a suspicious man has been spotted downstairs at the Oriental Building. He's about 1.7 meters tall, wearing black sunglasses, and carrying a long bag that looks like it contains sniper rifle parts," Chen Yuan's voice came through the comms when Gu Feng had run about 500 meters. "Also, the black van that brought him is parked at the entrance of the Oriental Building. Judging by the tires, there are two to three people inside."
"Don't alert them. The people on the rooftop should stay hidden. Once it's confirmed he's a sniper, subdue him immediately, and remember to take him alive," Gu Feng slowed his pace and said in a deep voice. "People downstairs, pay attention. Once the sniper is subdued, you must act immediately and not let the vehicle downstairs leave."
"Don't worry, Captain Gu, leave it to us," Chen Yuan replied before signing off.
Gu Feng glanced at the Oriental Building, still over a thousand meters away, and made his way over at a leisurely pace.
On the rooftop of the Oriental Building.
Da Shitou kept fidgeting with the triangular bayonet in his hand, a grin of excitement on his lips. Tiedan, on the other hand, was meticulously cleaning his pistol, his expression very focused.
"Tiedan, I'll take care of this guy in a bit. You just watch from the side," Da Shitou said with a smile, skillfully twirling the triangular bayonet.
"No way. The captain said we can't afford any slip-ups. To be safe, I'll shoot the gun out of his hand, and then you go in!" Tiedan said without looking up.
Da Shitou looked displeased. "Damn! You don't trust my skills! We've been partners for ages. Have I ever let you down?"
Tiedan was left speechless by Da Shitou's words. As Da Shitou said, they had worked together many times, and Da Shitou had never let him down. Da Shitou's close-quarters combat skills were the strongest among their fifteen members, even surpassing Chen Yuan's, especially with his mastery of the bayonet.
Seeing Tiedan silent, Da Shitou got excited and said in a thick Northeastern accent, "So it's settled, alright? I'll handle that sniper in a bit, alright? You just watch from the side."
With that, Da Shitou gently shook his neck, producing a series of cracking sounds.
Tiedan shook his head helplessly and said nothing, but he decided then and there. He would let Da Shitou make the first move, and if the assassin had a chance to draw his gun, he would take him out before he could.
Tiedan had great confidence in his shooting skills. He was a renowned sharpshooter in the T6 unit, not only accurate but also very fast.
"Based on our calculations, the target will reach the rooftop in half a minute. Da Shitou, Tiedan, both of you, stay hidden," Chen Yuan, sitting in the black van downstairs at the Oriental Building, reminded Da Shitou and Tiedan via comms.
"Don't worry, Sister Chen, leave it to me," Da Shitou replied dismissively. In Da Shitou's view, dealing with mercenaries was indeed challenging, but dealing with ordinary assassins was no trouble at all.
On the rooftop of the Oriental Building, Da Shitou and Tiedan, having received Chen Yuan's order, hid behind a wall.
Half a minute later, a young man in a black cloak, wearing sunglasses, walked unhurriedly onto the rooftop.
After stepping onto the rooftop, the guy first carefully looked around, confirmed no one was there, then raised his wrist to check the time. He put down his backpack, unzipped it, and pulled out a gun barrel.
Behind the assassin, Da Shitou peeked out. Seeing the guy pull out the gun barrel, a cruel smile appeared on his lips. Without a word, he sprang forward, charging at the assassin like a leopard pouncing.
Hearing footsteps, the assassin's expression shifted slightly, and he instinctively looked toward Da Shitou.
He saw a black figure rushing from the distance at an extremely fast speed.
Seeing this, the assassin's face changed again, and he instinctively reached into his backpack for his gun.
The next moment, Da Shitou's triangular bayonet was pressed against the assassin's neck, and Da Shitou said in his thick Northeastern accent, "You better not move, alright? Otherwise, I might not be able to control this bayonet."
The assassin was a native of Thailand and only knew some broken Cantonese. How could he understand Da Shitou's thick Northeastern accent?
"Who are you?" the assassin asked nervously in broken Cantonese.
"Cut the crap (Northeastern slang for 'stop talking nonsense'), get up! Hurry up, alright?" Da Shitou gently twisted the triangular bayonet in his hand, and a red mark immediately appeared on the assassin's neck, with blood seeping out instantly.
The assassin's eyes darted around rapidly. He didn't get up immediately, seemingly considering whether to take action.
The next moment, he caught a glimpse of a guy behind Da Shitou who looked half-asleep, holding a pistol with a very focused expression.
Seeing Tiedan, the assassin's heart skipped a beat because he noticed the muzzle of Tiedan's pistol was pointed directly at him.
"Da Shitou, stop fooling around. Knock him out quickly. Captain Gu is waiting," Tiedan put away the white handkerchief, glanced at the assassin, his gaze full of disdain.
Hearing "Captain Gu," Da Shitou dropped his playful expression. His left hand formed a knife shape and struck the back of the assassin's neck hard.
The assassin didn't even have time to scream before collapsing unconscious on the ground.
"Damn, using a German-made G22 sniper rifle. The equipment is really badass," Da Shitou remarked, looking at the gear in the backpack.
Tiedan coldly glanced at Da Shitou. "Stop talking nonsense. Hurry up and carry him. Captain Gu is waiting."
Da Shitou put the sniper rifle barrel back into the bag, then grabbed the assassin and pulled him up. At the same time, he asked Tiedan curiously, "Hey, Tiedan, why do you think the captain knew the assassin would try to kill him here?"
"How should I know?" Tiedan glared at Da Shitou in frustration, then picked up the assassin's bag and said into the comms, "Report to Captain Chen, the assassin has been subdued."
Hearing Tiedan, Da Shitou said, "Take out the jammer. Don't let the cameras record us." As he spoke, he supported the assassin with one hand and walked toward the edge of the rooftop. If you didn't look closely, you might think Da Shitou and the assassin were good friends walking arm in arm.
Half a minute later, under Chen Yuan's command, the remaining members of the Hei Gu Team easily subdued the three guys waiting downstairs at the Oriental Building to support the assassin.
At the same time, Da Shitou casually supported the assassin as they walked out of the Oriental Building's emergency exit.
"Captain Gu, all three assassins have been subdued. Awaiting further instructions," Chen Yuan immediately reported to Gu Feng as the three Thai assassins were pulled into the vehicle.
"Take them to the food factory, then interrogate them to find out their hideout and Xiang Tianhua's hideout," Gu Feng said calmly, sitting on a flower bed by the street. "Send me a message once you get the results."
"Yes!" Chen Yuan answered firmly and ended the call.
In the back seat, Da Shitou saw Chen Yuan end the call and asked with a smile, "Captain Chen, what are Captain Gu's instructions?"
"Captain Gu wants us to interrogate these three," Chen Yuan said absentmindedly, but she was puzzled. She wondered how Gu Feng could deduce that these three assassins would attempt to assassinate him this morning. Along with her confusion, a flicker of admiration began to spread in her heart.
"Captain Chen, can you leave the interrogation to me?" Da Shitou rubbed his hands excitedly.
"No!" Chen Yuan glared coldly at Da Shitou. "Captain Gu said we need to get results in the shortest time possible. Your interrogation methods take too long."
Da Shitou's interrogation methods were known for being cruel and bloody. While effective, they were time-consuming, something Chen Yuan and the others were well aware of.
"Captain Chen, I feel like you've changed since meeting Captain Gu," Da Shitou said, a little frustrated that Chen Yuan wouldn't let him interrogate, but also noticing something, he chuckled.
As soon as Da Shitou said this, the other Hei Gu Team members in the vehicle couldn't help but laugh.
"Shut up!" Chen Yuan coldly snapped.
Seeing Chen Yuan angry, Da Shitou and the others wisely kept quiet. However, no one noticed a faint blush creeping onto Chen Yuan's cold, beautiful face...
