Chapter 111: What Exactly Is It?

Lin Xing fully activated the true qi within his body. Although he had not yet recovered to his peak and currently only possessed strength at the level of a Great Sword Master, Lin Xing had always excelled in speed.
At full power, Lin Xing's speed was now like a bolt of lightning, and in no time, he had left the Light Church group far behind.
Although the Light Church's Cardinal was stronger than Lin Xing, he was a mage, and Light Magic offered no spells for acceleration, so he couldn't catch up.
As for the others, even if some were skilled in speed, no one dared to rashly give chase alone. After all, the opponent was unfamiliar, and if the other party had some trick, then going alone would be suicide. Even if they had no schemes, going alone would likely still mean a sure death.
Although he had given them the slip, Lin Xing continued to sprint headlong for a long time before finally stopping in a concealed location. He worried the Light Church might have some formidable expert tracking him, which was why he kept running.
Lin Xing observed from the hiding spot for a long time before finally confirming no one was following. Now calmed, Lin Xing felt a sense of trepidation. He never expected the Light Church to dispatch even a Cardinal, one of their top experts.
The Cardinal was the second-highest ranking figure in the Church, below only the supreme Pope. There were a total of six Cardinals.
"Even a Cardinal has appeared. I wonder if their Chief Inquisitor has also come," Lin Xing muttered to himself.
The Chief Inquisitor was also among the Church's top-tier experts just below the Pope. The Cardinals were magic-users, while the Chief Inquisitor was a warrior. The Chief Inquisitor and the Cardinals held equal status.
Cardinals, White Bishops, High Priests, Priests—these were the positions in the Light Church's magic-user hierarchy. For the warriors, there was the Chief Inquisitor and Deputy Chief Inquisitors, totaling six: one chief and five deputies. Below them were the Holy Inquisitors and Inquisitors.
The Light Church also had an Order of Knights, an entire army composed of Light Knights!
Fortunately, their Inquisitors hadn't appeared; otherwise, Lin Xing might have been killed. However, Lin Xing also knew that within the Light Church, the Cardinals and the Chief Inquisitor were at loggerheads, secretly jockeying for power.
Lin Xing considered himself quite lucky to have escaped the Cardinal. He had fled immediately; a moment later, and he would have been caught.
Lin Xing then returned to the inn. In the following days, he took no further action, but more and more people gathered in Netherbeast City.
What exactly could attract so many forces? The Light Church's top experts, even a Cardinal, were deployed. Presumably, experts from other factions had also arrived.
Netherbeast City, a town famous and prosperous for bordering the Magic Beast Forest, now gathered experts from many continental powers.
During these days, Lin Xing tried to glean information, but the major forces remained tight-lipped, not letting out the slightest hint! Those not in their ranks were also completely in the dark.
As these experts continuously gathered, Netherbeast City grew more oppressive by the day!
After several days, Lin Xing had learned nothing. He no longer dared to eavesdrop; the earlier encounter still filled him with apprehension.
Now, without his peak strength, if he went again and was discovered, it would be the death of him.
However, Lin Xing was not one to let curiosity kill him. Since he couldn't learn anything, he prepared to enter the Magic Beast Forest.
Although he estimated some treasure was about to emerge, treasures belonged to those with virtue. What wasn't meant to be his would never be his. Even if he didn't know now, he would find out.
"Chief Guardian, long time no see!" In a room, two factions met. The speaker was an old man shrouded entirely in a black robe, revealing only a pair of gleaming eyes. His body emitted a cold, sinister aura, giving a chilling sensation.
"We haven't met since we joined forces against the Light Church over a decade ago, dear Mr. Black Bishop," the gaunt-faced Chief Guardian of the Divine Wind Sect said with a dry chuckle.
"It seems our two sects must unite again against that despicable Light Church. This time, let's ensure they come but never return! We'll weaken their strength!" the Dark Church's Black Bishop said coldly.
"Right! Let that old scoundrel the Pope suffer losses. Best if we eliminate all their Cardinals!" the Divine Wind Sect's Chief Guardian said in that same annoying, dry voice.
The Black Bishop nodded, then waved his subordinates away. The Chief Guardian, understanding, dismissed his own. The Black Bishop casually waved a hand, setting up a silence ward.
"Chief Guardian, what's the situation?" the Black Bishop asked in a lowered voice.
"No concrete news! It's still as it was a century ago!" the Chief Guardian whispered back.
"A century ago, we got that news. We wasted three years, even lost a Black Bishop, and came away empty-handed," the Black Bishop said suddenly.
"I estimate that thing is at the heart of the Magic Beast Forest!" the Chief Guardian stated.
"Oh? How so?" the Black Bishop leaned closer.
"Think. Last time, many continental forces entered, but after three years, they gained nothing. That thing must be at the very center! Except for the central area we couldn't enter, everywhere else..."
The Black Bishop listened and nodded. "So what should we do now?"
"This time, we gather our two sects' elites and charge straight into the central area!"
The Black Bishop's face twitched. *Madman! This Chief Guardian is a madman!* he screamed inwardly. The heart of the Magic Beast Forest was where legendary Divine Beasts and Super Divine Beasts roamed. Their current manpower wouldn't even fill the gaps between those beasts' teeth.
"I must return and seek our Sect Leader's counsel. If this plan is viable, our current force is insufficient; we must await more experts," the Black Bishop said.
Next, they discussed coordinated strategies before slipping away separately.
And Lin Xing had already embarked on his journey into the Magic Beast Forest.
