Chapter 027 【Fierce Battle】
by“Brother Gu, if you don’t mind, shall we grab a few drinks somewhere?” ALong was a man of genuine character. Losing to Gu Feng hadn’t bred resentment in him; on the contrary, he held Gu Feng in some esteem.
Gu Feng shook his head. “No need for drinks. It’s getting late—we can do it another time.”
Hearing Gu Feng’s refusal, ALong didn’t press further. He smiled and said, “All right, then—we’ll drink another day when we’re free.” Then he turned to Ling Wei: “Young Master Ling, please take Brother Gu home. I’m heading back to the club.”
“You got it, Brother ALong!” Ling Wei replied eagerly. “Teacher Gu, I’ll drive you back.”
Gu Feng nodded, bid farewell to ALong and the others, and climbed into Ling Wei’s sports car.
Perhaps because Gu Feng had agreed to teach him martial arts, Ling Wei seemed slightly awkward once inside the car. Noticing Gu Feng remained silent, he drove obediently—and gently.
As the car approached the entrance of Mingzhu Apartments, Ling Wei couldn’t help asking, “Teacher Gu, when will you start teaching me kung fu?” He looked at Gu Feng with eager anticipation.
“If I’m not mistaken, you still haven’t apologized to Teacher Xia, have you?” Gu Feng countered with a question.
Ling Wei scratched his head awkwardly and gave a sheepish chuckle. “I’ll definitely apologize to Teacher Xia tomorrow. Teacher Gu—if I apologize to Teacher Xia, will you teach me kung fu then?”
“That depends on your performance.” Gu Feng’s reply was deliberately ambiguous. Ling Wei fell silent, lowering his head as if pondering the meaning behind Gu Feng’s words.
Gu Feng wanted to teach Ling Wei kung fu entirely because he held a favorable impression of him. Though Ling Wei had been beaten by him that afternoon, he harbored no resentment and kept his word. Even though Gu Feng didn’t know the exact nature of the conflict between Ling Wei and Xia Wei, resolving their misunderstanding was undoubtedly a good thing.
It was already ten o’clock at night, and traffic on the streets had noticeably thinned. Yet for those who thrived on nightlife, a new day was just beginning.
Expensive sports cars occasionally appeared on the road. After overtaking Ling Wei’s car, they would slow down to taunt him.
Several times, Ling Wei felt the urge to race those provocateurs—but seeing Gu Feng beside him, he suppressed it.
Soon, the car arrived at the entrance of Mingzhu Apartments. After stepping out, Gu Feng glanced at Ling Wei and said, “Don’t go racing after them. Go home and get some sleep—you have class tomorrow.”
“Understood, Teacher.” Ling Wei was taken aback, wondering how Gu Feng had seen straight through his thoughts.
Hearing Ling Wei’s reply, Gu Feng turned to leave—but out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a white van barreling toward him. Its tires looked worn, and it was packed with people.
With a screech of tires against pavement, the van abruptly halted at the entrance of Mingzhu Apartments.
Ling Wei was about to start his car when he suddenly saw a vehicle blocking his path. He couldn’t help sticking his head out the window and cursing, “What the hell? Are you blind?”
Clearly, although Ling Wei played the model student in front of Gu Feng, having grown up in a gangster family, he carried a violent streak deep in his bones.
The moment Ling Wei finished speaking, the van’s door swung open—and several burly men wielding machetes rushed out.
Seeing this, Ling Wei’s expression changed instantly. At the same time, Gu Feng stopped walking and watched the charging men coldly. From their gaze, he knew they were targeting him.
These men were clearly seasoned desperadoes. As they charged Gu Feng, they didn’t shout like ordinary thugs—they remained eerily silent.
A sharp, murderous aura filled the entrance of Mingzhu Apartments. The security guard at the gate trembled in fear and hurriedly picked up the phone to call the police.
Though Gu Feng didn’t know why these men were after him, seeing their fierce, menacing expressions, he didn’t waste time asking questions—he immediately lunged toward the lead attacker.
“Teacher Gu, I’ll help you!” Gu Feng’s move snapped Ling Wei out of his shock. He dashed from the car and charged toward the men.
The lead man, seeing Gu Feng not flee but advance toward him, spread a cruel grin across his face. When he was about a meter away, he swiftly swung the steel machete in his hand. Its gleaming blade, charged with lethal intent, slashed fiercely toward Gu Feng—cutting the air with a sharp whistle.
Gu Feng shifted his stance and sidestepped slightly. While evading, his right hand shot out, clamping onto the man’s wrist and yanking hard. With a sickening *crack*, the man grimaced in pain and dropped the machete.
He’d disarmed the man—barehanded!
In an instant, Gu Feng caught the falling machete and parried another attacker’s blade—simultaneously kicking the man in front of him backward.
*Clang!* The two steel machetes collided mid-air, sending sparks flying.
At the impact, the man winced in pain—blood welling from his right hand gripping the machete—and instinctively let go.
With a single clash, Gu Feng had drawn blood from his opponent’s hand!
The five or six men behind, witnessing Gu Feng instantly take down two of their comrades, hesitated instinctively. At the same time, Ling Wei rushed to Gu Feng’s side.
“Ling Wei—get behind me.” Gu Feng’s voice was icy cold as he spoke to Ling Wei beside him, eyes never leaving the attackers.
Ling Wei’s face hardened as he gritted his teeth. “No, Teacher—I want to fight these scum alongside you!”
Then he glared disdainfully at the group and declared, “If you know what’s good for you, get the hell out of here—now! If I find out who you are, I’ll make sure every last one of you dies in Hong Kong!”
As the son of the boss of Hong Kong’s Red Star Gang, he certainly had the power to back up such a threat. Yet Ling Wei didn’t anticipate that these men didn’t recognize him—and paid no heed whatsoever to his words.
They didn’t even glance at Ling Wei. Upon hearing his threat, one of them grimly waved his hand. Seeing the signal, his companions uttered no word—only raised their machetes and charged forward.
“Stay behind me!” Gu Feng grabbed Ling Wei’s collar and yanked him behind himself—then raised his machete to meet the attackers.
The scent of blood in the air stirred Ling Wei’s warlike instincts. He didn’t obediently stand aside as Gu Feng had instructed—instead, he pressed close behind him. Clearly, Ling Wei was no coward; he refused to hide behind Gu Feng!
Gu Feng had no time to argue with Ling Wei’s decision—so he could only keep half his attention on him. Though these men were all desperate criminals, aside from their reckless, life-or-death attitude, there was nothing particularly formidable about them.
