Chapter 181 The Big Wolf Dog with its Tail Tucked Between Its Legs
by adminFrank understood what Liszt meant, creating an opportunity for him and Shelley to spend time together. He was well aware of the way Shelley looked at him—it was very passionate.
If Liszt had been a bit more carefree, he might have kept Shelley in Flower Town that very night.
But he was, after all, a gentleman.
He simply chatted with Shelley about their childhood, mostly listening as she spoke, since his memories of his past life were hazy and many details were forgotten.
After a while,
Shelley said her goodbyes, "Brother Liszt, can I visit Flower Town again?"
"Of course, you're always welcome."
"If Brother Liszt comes to Coral City, you can find me anytime. I help my mother with embroidery at home, so I have plenty of free time."
"Alright."
"I'll head back now; my parents are waiting for me in the carriage."
Liszt smiled, "Be careful on your way."
Shelley turned to walk towards the carriage. Just before reaching it, she turned back, hoping to see if Liszt was watching her.
However, in her sight, Liszt had walked over to the doghouse, playing with the massive Hiddleston, a fearsome intermediate magical beast that behaved like a small puppy, circling around him.
She felt a sudden sense of disappointment.
With the coachman's help, she climbed into the carriage.
"Shelley, how did your chat with Liszt go?" Frank's wife asked as the carriage started moving.
"I don't know, Mother. Brother Liszt was very polite, but it felt like we were meeting for the first time. There wasn't that familiar feeling anymore."
"Well, you haven't seen each other in years, and you've both grown up."
"Maybe." Shelley's mood brightened, "Brother Liszt is still as handsome as when we were children, and his smile warms the heart."
"Then seize the opportunity," Frank's wife said with a smile, "With the Thorn Sprite and an intermediate magical beast, Liszt is the most outstanding young man on Coral Island."
"Yes, I will," Shelley nodded confidently.
Here, whether men or women pursue each other, it's the same—there's no rule that men must take the initiative and women must be passive.
Seeing his wife and daughter's relaxed smiles, Frank also smiled, but there was a hint of regret in his eyes. Having served Tulip Castle for many years, he knew that the Tulip family was not a typical noble family—Lvera was prouder than male nobles, and Levis was set on marrying Marquis Rodrick's daughter.
Mary and Lytton, this mother-son duo, never hesitated to squeeze Levis out of resources.
In the past, he thought Liszt was the weakest, which led the Earl to lose faith in him. But now, Liszt gradually showed a strong demeanor.
With the Thorn Sprite and an intermediate magical beast, he immediately began recruiting followers, revealing his ambition.
Would such a nobleman look favorably upon his daughter? Frank was quite worried. From Levis, he learned that Liszt had once rejected a Viscount's daughter on Red Crab Island, let alone Shelley, who was only the daughter of a Baron Knight.
Fortunately, seeing his daughter's excellence, he felt reassured.
"Perhaps Shelley can win Liszt over. He's inexperienced and has been cooped up on Coral Island. Shelley graduated from Ox Horn College and is smart... Even if she doesn't succeed with Liszt, there are still plenty of nobles pursuing her on Coral Island."
Thinking this,
he felt relieved, "We'll stay overnight in North Valley City. I have some old friends I'd like to catch up with."
...
After sending off all the guests,
Flower Town returned to its tranquility, and the castle servants began cleaning the trampled lawn.
Liszt unchained Hiddleston, who immediately ran across the horse field, chasing horses. All the horses ran away from Hiddleston except for the Black Dragon, which didn't fear it at all and even dared to kick it with its hind legs.
Hiddleston didn't dare to mess with the Black Dragon because it knew Liszt forbade it from bullying these horses.
Mounting the Black Dragon, he called out, "Hiddleston, follow me!"
With a few attendants, they galloped towards Flower Farm. The ordinary tulips on Flower Farm hadn't expanded much; only a limited amount was planted. Most of the fallow fields were being prepared for black tulips, aiming to fill the area affected by the Tulip Cordyceps with them.
A simple building appeared on the barren land.
Excited, Hiddleston rushed towards the building, where barking could be heard inside. This was a recently built kennel housing twenty female large wolf dogs. These dogs were excellent guard dogs due to their large size and breed.
However, upon arriving in Flower Town, their fate became miserable.
"My lord, old Defoe greets you," the slave managing the kennel bowed and opened the gate, allowing Liszt to lead Hiddleston inside.
The kennel was vast.
Inside were rows of doghouses and iron cages, each containing a large wolf dog.
Seemingly sensing Hiddleston's scent, the previously barking dogs tucked their tails and hid deep within their cages.
Hiddleston, however, jumped around excitedly.
Old Defoe, fearing the imposing Hiddleston, cautiously opened the first cage door. Hiddleston eagerly charged in, attacking the female wolf dog for nearly ten minutes amidst her loud cries. Compared to the female wolf dog, Hiddleston's size was like a Tibetan Mastiff with a Chihuahua.
Yet, nature, the creator, endowed creatures with rich creativity, diversity, and adaptability.
The female wolf dog's adaptability was strong, or perhaps Hiddleston had grown in everything except that one aspect... After the gruesome scene ended.
Hiddleston maintained his posture for a quarter of an hour before finally pulling away with a joyful leap.
Left behind, the female wolfhound collapsed in the cage, her face showing a look of utter despair.
"Old Defoe, remember to feed her extra food and be sure to watch for any signs of pregnancy. If she does get pregnant, you must immediately go to the castle and notify them, understood?"
"Old Defoe understands, my lord. Old Defoe has raised dogs for many years and can accurately tell which ones are expecting just by looking at them."
"Very good."
Leaving the kennel,
Liszt took Hiddleston to the dog prison, where Hiddleston was made to fraternize with Tupo. Tupo's belly had not changed, but she was undoubtedly pregnant—a fact confirmed by experts like Old Defoe.
After being released, Hiddleston did not trouble Tupo further but instead played with her for a while.
Perhaps due to being of the same kind, Hiddleston left the female wolfhounds after satisfying himself without any lingering attachment, but he maintained a consistent enthusiasm for Tupo.
Liszt squatted beside Tupo and reached out to stroke her black fur.
Tupo showed no reaction; she had already resigned herself to her fate, forgotten magic, and embraced this life of gentle winds and light rains, where she did not have to hunt for her own food and could simply eat, drink, and sleep every day.
