Chapter 79 Crooked Neck Bob’s Mistake
by adminThe caravan did not return until the following noon, finally arriving back in Flower Town.
Of the six carriages, two were laden with goods, while the other four carried Marcus and Blair's families – the six horses were visibly exhausted, struggling to pull their loads alone.
"Sir!"
Marcus dismounted and bowed. A crowd soon descended from the carriage behind him.
"Teacher Marcus, if I'm not mistaken, your family isn't this large, is it?" Liszt counted carefully, and found that Marcus' family alone numbered twenty-two people.
"My two sisters and their families have also decided to settle down in Flower Town with me," Marcus replied. "Life has been difficult for them in Coral City, mainly due to the large number of children. Despite my occasional support, they still struggle to make ends meet."
Liszt nodded, always welcoming more people to his town.
Next, Blair's family paid their respects. Blair's household was smaller, consisting of his wife and four children, with their eldest son recently married but yet to have children.
Gort was instructed to accommodate both families.
Only then did Liszt begin to inquire about the business of this trading journey.
Old Grandet spoke with some anxiety, "My lord, not many seafood dishes were sold. Half of them were given away as free samples to the citizens of Coral City. Actually, many who tasted the seafood praised its flavor, but one person broke out in red spots all over their body and experienced vomiting and diarrhea after eating it. This led to fear among the citizens."
Harpagon added, "If not for the patrol team recognizing that the convoy belonged to you, my lord, we might have lost all our goods this time."
An allergy to seafood, huh?
Lister pondered. Indeed, there were people allergic to seafood, but no one in Flower Town had ever shown such an allergy. He had once thought that seafood from this world wouldn't cause allergies.
It turned out that there were indeed people who could be allergic to seafood.
"It's quite unexpected that such a thing happened, but don't put too much pressure on yourselves. Only a very small number of people will experience physical issues after consuming seafood. It's just a rare case, and they'll recover quickly if they stop immediately. Remember to make it clear when you sell the seafood next time."
"Yes, my lord."
"Have I got everything I need?"
"Thick parchment, dried milk, hops beer, red wine… We've got them all, but unfortunately, we couldn't find pig pancreas. None of the butchers in Coral City kept any. I've already contacted them and asked them to preserve the pig pancreas for us in the future when we come to purchase it again."
Pig pancreas was used to make soap.
In the castle, they now used soap powder, which was made from the fruit of a soapberry tree. Among the new slaves were soap makers who could add petals to the powder to create scented soap. However, the process of making soap was complex, and Bounie, the soap maker, lacked the necessary equipment, so he had yet to produce any soap. Therefore, Liszt hoped to make his own soap. After Grandet informed him of the situation and prepared to pay for the goods, Liszt, of course, would not accept the payment with his hands - it would be beneath his dignity. He picked up the cup on the table and said casually, "Mr. Carter, you and Old Grandet can handle the transaction. From now on, both of you will be in charge of purchasing for the castle." "As you wish, my lord," Carter took on the task without hesitation.
...
Marcus's family and Blair's family had dinner at the castle, after which Liszt left their arrangements to Gort. As a lord, his most important duty was to enjoy himself. "My lord, there's a small matter from Mushroom Village that I'm not sure if you'd be interested in hearing about," Mrs. Mosson said to Liszt, who was reading a knight novel for leisure while she and Macy cleaned the study. Mushroom Village?
Lister instantly thought of his own mission rewards.
A Novel Kind of Mushroom: "What's happening in Mushroom Village?" "The mushrooms that the castle usually employs mostly come from Bob the Crooked Neck's place; his are the tenderest. But lately, Bob has been deeply troubled. On his mushroom cultivation racks, a vibrant red variety has started to grow. He weeds out one batch, and another takes its place."
Before they could finish speaking.
Lister sprang to his feet, not even turning around as he exited the study. He began to call up the stairs, "Thomas, prepare the horses!"
Thomas, who was about to retire for the night, hastily rushed out of his chamber and hurried to prepare his horse.
Carter also hurried over. "Sir, do you have important business to attend to tonight?"
"It's very important. I need to make a trip to Mushroom Village. Have someone inform Gort," he suddenly remembered, turning to the female butler still in the study. "Mrs. Mo Sen, come with me and lead the way to Bob the Crooked Neck's house."
Moments later.
Thomas had the horses prepared.
With torches lit, they set off under the moonlight for Mushroom Village.
Servant Jesse rode his horse to the town, summoning Gort and four attendant knights for Lord Lithur. They were headed for Mushroom Village to meet with Lithur.
Mushroom Village was in an uproar.
Bob the Crooked Neck was extremely nervous. Mrs. Moson knocked on his door to inform him that the lord was visiting his mushroom shed. He thought there was something wrong with his mushrooms, and the lord was coming to hold him accountable. As a serf, he was responsible for cultivating the fields for the lord, and failure would result in punishment by the whip.
"Bob, don't be nervous. The lord is merciful. This isn't your fault; he won't punish you easily," Mrs. Moson reassured him.
By now, Lithur had already arrived at Bob's mushroom shed.
Thomas followed closely with a torch in hand.
"My lord, what are you looking for?" Thomas asked.
"I've found what I was seeking," Lithur replied. His pupils spun like vortexes, and specks of starlight flickered as if in an infinite universe. In his sight, faint red traces of magic outlined the shapes of mushrooms on several rotten logs used for growing them.
Dismissing his Magic Eye, he relied on the torchlight to see the source of the magic: bright red mushrooms.
Resembling a vivid crimson mushroom amidst a vast bed of ordinary ones, it was evident that the surrounding fungi had withered in comparison to this vibrant red one.
"It's indeed a Magic Mushroom," Liszt couldn't help but chuckle. The magic within this mushroom revealed itself in red, a hue characteristic of fire-elemental magic. "I possess Fire-attribute Battle Aura; this red mushroom is a tremendous tonic for me!"
Sky Knights were essentially reliant on potions, as without ample magical supplements, it would be challenging for them to ascend to higher levels of Battle Aura.
"Thomas, ask Mrs. Moson to bring Bob over."
When Bob stood nervously before him, Liszt smiled warmly. "You must be Bob, no need to be nervous."
Bob was so frightened that he knelt down and began kowtowing. "My Lord, I... I made a mistake. I ruined the mushroom ingredients. Please, forgive me!"
"Bob, please stand up. Not only will I not punish you, but I'll reward you."
