Chapter 906: Fearless Charge
by adminHe woke up feeling refreshed and clear-headed.
Liszt could no longer recall the dreams he had the night before, but his life’s goal was now clear: to ride all the dragons of the Legendary Continent and the other "*Mafa Continent*."
The *Mafa Continent* was previously revealed by Acheronides, but Liszt wasn’t entirely sure which region it referred to.
During their discussion last night, he and Acheronides speculated that the *Mafa Continent* might be the homeland of the Sun’s descendants.
In ancient times, the Moon Empire unified the Legendary Continent, while the Sun’s descendants unified the *Mafa Continent*. These two ancient civilizations, separated by the Devil’s Sea, traveled between continents via sky ships. They might have also established magic portals for direct communication, though it remained unclear why the Sun’s descendants also declined.
Liszt still remembered the note inside the aluminum drift bottle: *The tower has collapsed, the tree city burns, XX has perished, the Sun’s descendants shall rise with the flames, and the children scattered abroad—you are free.*
Perhaps this referred to a great cataclysm that once struck the *Mafa Continent*.
However, the timelines didn’t quite match up. According to old cobbler Phil’s stories and the diary of Philip, a descendant of the Sun, their ancestors were exiled only a few hundred years ago. That note likely recorded events from a few centuries back, not the distant ancient civilization.
Moreover, Liszt had salvaged a sunken sky ship, and based on its decay, it was no more than a millennium old.
Meanwhile, the Moon Empire had fallen eons ago—at least several millennia, if not tens of thousands of years. They likely existed in different eras than the Sun’s civilization.
"Perhaps there’s another possibility," he mused. "After the Moon Empire’s fall, the knightly kingdoms that arose all claimed to inherit its glory. Maybe the Sun’s civilization also had successors, only for that successor to collapse again?"
He frowned.
Soon, he reconsidered. "Maybe the Sun’s civilization wasn’t even an ancient civilization from the Moon Empire’s era. Otherwise, the fragmented records passed down from the Moon Empire would surely not be without mention of them… Perhaps these Sun’s descendants are a new civilization on the *Mafa Continent*?"
He even wondered if the Sun’s descendants might themselves be remnants of the Moon Empire.
Just like the Moon Slayers living on Flame Island, perhaps a group of Moon Empire survivors crossed the Devil’s Sea and settled on the *Mafa Continent*.
"Moon Slayers and Sun’s descendants—their names mirror each other nicely."
Overthinking made his head ache. After washing up, he pushed these thoughts aside and ate a simple breakfast together with Acheronides.
Then they set off again.
Taming the orichalcum dragon was now the top priority.
The upper reaches of the Rhine River had many tributaries, but the main river was wide and easy to track. Soaring along its course, they finally arrived at the end of May at the foot of an endless mountain range. This range had numerous branches, but its fractured ridges were the hallmark of the Hengduan Mountains.
"Acheronides, we’re here—this is the Hengduan Mountains." Liszt pulled a map from his spatial ring. "According to the map Duke Piero gave me, there’s a distinctive strip-shaped mountain range within the Hengduan Mountains, lined up like knife blades. It should be easy to spot."
The Hengduan Mountains were vast, perhaps the size of an Earth province.
Even searching by dragon wouldn’t be easy, but Liszt had plenty of time. A slow aerial reconnaissance would suffice as long as they located the strip-shaped range.
Leaving Lightgreen Gem Dragon Ethan behind, he and Acheronides rode the invisible dragon Bard into the material boundary.
Bard was incredibly fast, with an expansive field of vision. His invisibility and ability to mask his aura’s reach made it easy to evade the orichalcum dragon’s detection.
At noon the next day, an oddly shaped mountain range suddenly came into view.
"Brother, is that the strip-shaped range? It looks like a row of blades," Acheronides pointed out.
The invisible dragon turned, and through the Crystal White Trace’s sight, a brilliant golden glow appeared amidst those mountains.
The distance was too great—over a hundred kilometers—so the glow’s form was indistinguishable at that distance.
But Liszt was already certain that was where the orichalcum dragon resided—only an Archmage could manifest such resplendent radiance within the Crystal White Trace. "Got it!" As the invisible dragon Bard drew closer, Liszt detected the unique presence emanating from the orichalcum dragon.
No doubt—it was a dragon.
"Brother, what do we do next?" Acheronides asked.
"I'll summon Ethan first. Let Leo and Ethan engage the orichalcum dragon while I capture the traitor Andre!" Liszt's eyes gleamed as he devised what he believed was a brilliant—if reckless—plan.
Bottom line: charge in.
Three dragons, one Archmage, and one Dragon Knight. Even if the orichalcum dragon was powerful enough to overwhelm a White Iron Dragon Knight, it stood no chance against such a formidable team. Especially after over a month of training, Rio had grown leaps and bounds stronger, both in endurance and combat prowess, far surpassing his capabilities during the ambush on the grey cast iron dragon.
The Dragon Heart Code linked them.
From afar, Ethan, who had been lying in wait, immediately took flight. Unable to conceal his presence, the golden glow from the orichalcum dragon reacted swiftly as he approached within a hundred kilometers—though it did not flee its territory. Dragons weren’t sticklers for territory, but an unfamiliar dragon's approach inevitably meant battle.
"Roar!"
Ethan, sensing the orichalcum dragon's aura, let out a deafening roar and charged straight toward it. Beside him, Liszt rode Bard. The two dragons covered the hundred kilometers in moments, and by then, even Bard’s invisibility could no longer be hidden.
Yet the orichalcum dragon still held its ground.
Through the Crystal White Trace, Liszt saw that the orichalcum dragon hadn't even taken flight—a clear display of absolute confidence in its own strength, believing no two dragons could breach its impervious scales.
"KREEE!"
A domineering roar erupted from the jagged mountain ridge as the orichalcum dragon issued a warning to the intruders, Ethan and Bard. No dragon-tongue required to understand its meaning.
"ROAR!"
"Screech!"
Undeterred, Ethan and Bard continued their high-speed advance.
When the distance shrank to ten kilometers, the orichalcum dragon finally rose, spreading its wings. With a single powerful flap of its massive wings and a thrust of its muscular hind legs, it took to the skies, soaring toward Ethan and Bard. In the Crystal White Trace, its silhouette was overwhelming.
"What a monster of a dragon!" Liszt was awestruck. Even Duke Piero had warned him about the orichalcum dragon's immense size, far surpassing that of iron dragons.
Seeing it up close? Jaw-dropping.
This orichalcum dragon's wingspan had to exceed seventy meters—perhaps even eighty. Among dragons, only an Elemental Dragon could top that.
"SKREEE-ONK!"
Suddenly, another commanding roar cut through the standoff between the three dragons. It was Rio the Fire Drake, making his entrance. Infuriated by the orichalcum dragon's arrogance, he wouldn’t stand for any dragon acting superior before him—even if he was still a juvenile, no dragon could overshadow a Fire Dragon destined for a hundred-meter wingspan in adulthood.
FWOOOM!
The flames dissipated, revealing Rio's true form—a thirty-five-meter wingspan and body length, only slightly smaller than the forty-five-meter Lightgreen Gem Dragon.
His black-red scales shimmered between light and shadow.
Without hesitation, he charged toward the orichalcum dragon, whose golden scales outshone even those of a Gold Dragon, ignoring the sheer mismatch as he launched his assault.
