A sudden warmth spread through his chest, and he could clearly sense something extra near his heart. He attempted to channel his mana to expel this entity from his heart, but several attempts ended in failure.
The magic seed stubbornly embedded itself in his heart, showing no intention of leaving.
Liszt's face grew serious.
His body had been infiltrated by the magic seed, and although he had regained consciousness from his coma, this did not bring him peace: "What exactly have I unleashed? Can this magic seed truly nurture a young Fire Dragon? Is there any negative impact on my heart?"
Unable to remove it, Liszt could only console himself.
He promptly summoned the smoke task.
"Complete the task, and receive a magic seed as a reward."
Upon completing the task, the magic seed was indeed the reward from the smoke task, though the method of reward was somewhat unexpected.
"If the magic seed was obtained through the smoke task's guidance, it shouldn't harm my body, right?" Liszt pondered.
So far, the rewards from the smoke task had all been beneficial, with no adverse effects.
This implied that the magic seed was also beneficial, though how to utilize its benefits was still unclear to him.
In an instant.
The smoke morphed into new serpent tongue.
"Task: With the magic seed obtained, the most valuable entity on Black Horse Island is now yours. The collapsed sinkhole has become a major hazard on the territory, prone to collapse at any time, endangering the safety of the residents. Please resolve the safety hazard of the collapsed sinkhole. Reward: The restlessness of the rubber worm."
"Hmm..."
Seeing the new task, Liszt's eyes lit up: "The magic seed represents the most valuable entity on Black Horse Island, so it might indeed be related to the Fire Dragon. As Virginia mentioned, it's crucial to the Fire Dragon's cycle... which means, my body might be hosting a future Fire Dragon?"
Just the thought of it was exhilarating.
But after the excitement subsided.
He couldn't help but feel overwhelmed: "Forging a magic seed has already cost so much, nearly exhausting most of the volcanic glass ore mining on Black Horse Island, just to gather the necessary Fire Dragon magic. And it also required special soul items salvaged from a ghost ship."
If he were to nurture the Fire Dragon.
There would likely be even greater expenses awaiting him.
"Strictly speaking, the magic seed is merely one component of the 'Fire Dragon series of tasks.' Let me calculate." Standing in the cave, Liszt was in no hurry to go up.
He started to tally the smoke tasks he had completed.
Including completed and altered ones, there were a total of eighty-three tasks over a year and a half.
The tasks related to the Fire Dragon started from the thirty-sixth task—migrating one hundred serfs to settle on Black Horse Island, rewarded with five decayed dragon bones.
Then the thirty-eighth task—raising over a thousand chickens in Flower Town, rewarded with a fire attribute nucleus ore vein, which is volcanic glass.
Followed by the seventy-first task—waiting for the end of the Iron Horse Island campaign, rewarded with the revival of decayed dragon bones.
Then the seventy-seventh task—mine 10 tons of volcanic glass, reward: the agitation of rubber worms.
The seventy-eighth task—infuse the dragon bones with Fire Dragon mana, reward: pink conches that produce pink pearls.
The eighty-second task—craft glass items, reward: the collapsed sinkhole.
The eighty-third task—obtain clues about Virginia, reward: a magic seed.
These seven tasks, some related to the Fire Dragon in terms of content and others in terms of rewards, can essentially be considered part of the Fire Dragon chain quest.
If we delve deeper, there are likely more tasks linked to the Fire Dragon, such as those related to Virginia.
The twenty-seventh task—investigate the cause of the chill in the damaged shipwreck, reward: a fixed dragon bone, which contains a 36D ghost.
The fifty-seventh task—collect black pearls from the ring reef, reward: a soul jar, enabling the 36D ghost to recover its memory and transform into Virginia Truth.
The sixty-fifth task—step onto Iron Horse Island, reward: Virginia's awakening.
These numerous tasks are clearly interconnected, with many intersecting with other chain quests, weaving complex threads of fate. If Liszt had not mastered the smoke tasks and obtained the golden finger to tweak the threads of fate, many rewards would have been missed.
It is the pull of these threads of fate that gradually accumulates seemingly unrelated rewards, eventually leading to greater rewards.
A Fire Dragon awaits!
"I must be in the midst of the Fire Dragon chain quest, but there are many links in the chain, with stops and starts, preventing completion in one go. Now the eighty-fourth smoke task, with the reward changed to the agitation of rubber worms... which means this magic seed will likely stay in my body for a while longer."
He thought calmly.
It helped him calm his restless emotions.
Since it's come to this, let it be. As long as the magic seed doesn't cause harm, he'll let it reside in his heart. Later, he can slowly explore how to connect with it or wait for new Fire Dragon chain tasks to be released, solving the issue of the magic seed.
He tugged on the dangling rope.
And shouted toward the collapsed sinkhole above: "Philip, Xavier!"
"Sir, we're here!" The voice of the squire knight came from the cave entrance; they had been guarding the burial ground.
"Pull me up."
Back on the ground, he learned he hadn't been in the cave for too long—likely only unconscious for about a quarter of an hour.
A quarter of an hour, starving to dizziness, even considering gnawing on himself.
Clearly, the magic seed was to blame.
Fortunately, it was just hunger, with no other changes to his body, and his mana flow remained normal.
"Sir, how is the situation at the burial ground?" Marcus, who had come from the training ground, inquired. The five distinctive bones of the burial ground had disappeared, which naturally raised questions.
"Probably the five bones decayed, triggering the ground collapse. There's nothing in the sinkhole," Liszt said casually. "What needs to be done now is to fill in this sinkhole to prevent further ground collapse, endangering the safety of the territory's serfs. It has already caused three deaths and one injury—a significant loss."
Every serf in the territory is an important productive asset.
Beyond the inevitable forces of old age and illness, Liszt hopes to reduce casualties from other causes.
"We can transport the rocks gathered by the blizzard beasts to fill in this sinkhole," suggested Blair, the territory's administrator.
Liszt is here, and the training of the Blizzard Beasts is also here. After each training session, a large amount of stones left from the release of rock spikes are generated.
Liszt, however, thought for a moment and said, "The terrain of the Burial Ground is not high; on the contrary, it is very low-lying. It was actually somewhat unusual that there was no standing water before. You can fill half of it with rocks and sea sand, and then figure out how to introduce fresh water into the other half. Whether for farming or grazing in the future, fresh water will be needed."
He speculated that the reason there was no standing water in this sinkhole was probably related to the bones of the Fire Dragon, as all the water had been evaporated.
Now that the dragon bones have decayed, they might be able to hold standing water.
Blair nodded and said, "Sir, the freshwater resources on the island are not abundant. Perhaps we can hope for a heavy rain."
