Chapter 554: The Untamed White-Eyed Dragon
by adminThis chapter is a bonus update, thanks to the generous reward for "Soy Milk is Not Milk."
Dodo Island is just a small island, likely not even one-tenth the size of Black Horse Island. The descendants of the sun who once lived on Dodo Island numbered fewer than three hundred.
The entire volcano occupies eighty percent of Dodo Island.
At this moment, the sun had not yet set, and from where Liszt landed, he could just see the sun hanging on the edge of the volcano's crater. A faint smoke encircled the sun, and as it reflected the sunlight, a faint rainbow seemed to hang in the air. The scene was breathtakingly beautiful.
"Acheronides, you and Rose wait here for me, and I'll go search the island first."
"Okay."
Without a mount, Liszt had no choice but to walk. He first looked at the forest by the shore. Just as he had guessed, these tall trees were Human Skull Trees. They bore fruits, both mature and immature, that resembled human skulls—all edible Human Skull Fruits.
He had tasted a few that had drifted ashore.
Inside the shell was a soft, white flesh—sweet, chewy, and with a faint orange aroma. If he had to compare, it was somewhat like the jackfruit he had eaten on Earth, though the taste and color were different.
It wasn’t particularly delicious, but it wasn’t bad either.
Still, the Human Skull Fruit was quite filling and could serve as a meal.
Liszt gave the forest a quick glance but didn’t linger. He directly climbed towards the volcano. Beyond fifty meters up the hillside, Human Skull Trees were scarce, replaced by shrubs and weeds. Higher up, even the shrubs and weeds vanished.
Only the dark, rugged mountain remained. As he stepped on it, Liszt could clearly see that the mountain, riddled with cracks and pores, was essentially cooled lava.
It was unclear how long it had been cooling, but it likely wasn’t from a recent eruption.
"Oh ho!"
The Fire Drake in his chest could no longer contain itself, eager to emerge. Liszt did not let it out; he needed to confirm the volcano’s environment before deciding whether the Fire Drake should cultivate here.
Jumping.
As he climbed closer to the volcano’s crater, the rising temperature became more noticeable. By the time he neared the summit, the heat was as intense as a sauna. Bracing against the heat, Liszt leaped to the crater’s edge and peered inside.
He saw a football-field-sized crater, twenty to thirty meters deep, filled with vast stretches of black rock. To the right, a pool of water bubbled and released plumes of steam. To the left, a pool of deep red magma churned.
"That's magma!"
Liszt was overjoyed. Indeed, this active volcano was in the process of erupting.
The rolling magma and sulfur smell overwhelmed him, and he could no longer restrain the Fire Drake Leo. It burst from his chest, transforming into a majestic Fire Dragon over ten meters long, and let out a thunderous roar: "Oh ho!"
It glanced at Liszt, then directly dived into the crater, plunging into the pool of deep red magma.
The deep red magma is not really a liquid; it's more like melted stone, slowly rolling like mud. And Leo plunged right into it. Just as Liszt was wondering if it would get stuck, it suddenly turned into a flame, merging into the magma.
"Hmm?"
Liszt looked at the magma, which was as calm as ever, and could not find Leo's figure. After activating the Magic Eye, he immediately noticed that the entire crater seemed enveloped in a faint red magic power.
The red magic power was most concentrated at the magma's location.
And Leo's magic power seemed to have turned into a net, spreading throughout the magma, but this net was getting thinner and soon disappeared.
Liszt didn't know what this meant. He waited for a while.
Leo certainly wouldn’t drown in the magma, but if it went in and never came out, that would be a disaster.
He had to yell out: "Leo!"
"Leo!"
"Leo!"
No answer.
"This ungrateful little dragon!" Liszt cursed under his breath, activating his Dragon Aura, his body immediately soared into the air, then descended onto the black rocks inside the crater.
As soon as he landed, the air was scorching, the smell sharp, like it was going to cook him alive.
"Leo!"
"Leo!"
"Leo!"
He yelled towards the magma ahead, toughing out the heat as he moved closer. The magma was probably several hundred degrees, even the air temperature was tens to hundreds of degrees, mixed with a lot of sulfur. He didn't dare get any closer than ten meters.
All he could do was hold his breath, stop, and yell.
Ten minutes passed, and still nothing.
In his mind, he was already cursing Leo out, from nurturing it from a magic seed, to its rebirth and up to now, he had raised it for a full six months. Fed it tons of priceless Fire Dragon Magic Power, spent an unknown amount of potions and beef, even drove up the price of beef on Coral Island several times!
Yet, without even a word, it plunged into the volcanic magma and did not show up again.
Completely heartless.
"Leo!" He called out a few more times, unwilling to give up, still no answer. By now, the sun was completely down, the only light left was the red glow from the magma in the crater.
Watching the slowly bubbling magma.
Liszt's face was dark.
For the first time, he felt like his training approach for the young Fire Drake Leo wasn't cutting it. If it were an adult dragon, perhaps compromise and adaptation would be the way to get along, but for a young dragon, compromise was a mistake. Maybe a firm hand is the way to go.
Only then can it learn the right mindset as a mount.
"Messed up."
He got up, flew over, and perched on the crater wall, sitting there, trying to wait it out a bit longer.
After a bit, wispy smoke slowly formed in front of him.
"Mission accomplished, reward: Dodo Island Volcano."
The next moment, the serpentine smoke transformed: "Mission: Dodo Island Volcano will become an important growth habitat for the Fire Drake, and this place will also become an important venue for your Dragon Knight training. Check out the island, come up with a solid training plan, and grow alongside the Fire Drake. Reward: a Spirit Bug."
"Grow alongside? This guy has already forgotten me!" Liszt looked at the mission content with a cold face, his mood was bad, but not to the point of panic.
After all, Leo is in this volcano, sooner or later he will catch it again, then he will have to whip it well, let it understand that some behaviors are not allowed to be indulged.
"From my observation just now, there seem to be no animals on this mountain, even if there are, they are just small animals. Although Leo has the volcano as a companion, it still needs to eat. Within a radius of eight hundred kilometers is the sea, it cannot survive independently, this is my chance."
Liszt stood up, suppressing all negative emotions, his mindset returned to calm: "Cut off its food source, won't it have to let me shape it as I please?"
He gave a cold smile.
He turned around and slowly left the crater.
Prepared to tell Acheronides, tomorrow he will start exploring Dodo Island, and formulate a new training plan.
