Chapter 677: Low Magic, High Magic, and Super Magic
by adminIt’s hard to say whether Acheronides counts as an adult.
However, since her promotion to Archmage, her body has undergone elemental reconstruction with the power of the Magic Web, maintaining her physical and mental independence while also integrating into the Magic Web as part of it.
"The Magic Web is a truly unique entity. Acheronides cannot perceive its boundaries, but it envelops every corner of the world. You can open a gateway anywhere and release magic through the Magic Web, even casting powerful water magic on land."
Acheronides described the Magic Web in detail.
Though she once compared Dragon Knights to scaled-down Magic Webs, the difference between a Dragon Knight's Magic Web and the true Magic Web is night and day.
Of course.
Despite Acheronides' detailed explanations, Liszt's understanding of the Magic Web remains quite vague. After all, the Magic Web is an abstract existence—difficult to truly comprehend without experiencing it firsthand. It’s more like a fundamental law than a physical thing.
"So the magic power you draw upon now belongs to the Magic Web. Do you think it could reach the level of dragon intent?" Liszt inquired.
Though he’d been momentarily distracted by Acheronides’ dainty bare feet, his hunger for knowledge and respect for power quickly pushed those thoughts aside, allowing him to engage enthusiastically with her in pursuing the truth side by side.
"It might differ from the dragon intent you described, brother. But Acheronides needs to compare Leo's dragon intent with the Magic Web’s energy to analyze it properly."
"That’s easy. Leo’s dragon intent is easy to come by." Given Liszt’s current relationship with Leo, the dragon wouldn’t refuse a request for its intent. "But you know I’ve trained in the Magic Eye. Now, channel some of the Magic Web’s energy so I can examine its unique properties."
Acheronides nodded.
She then cast a basic water spell—Water Arrow.
A water arrow materialized in her palm, suspended midair.
Liszt’s pupils shimmered like swirling galaxies as he activated the Magic Eye, scrutinizing the water arrow. A blue-white current of water magic held it together—this energy was incredibly concentrated. Unfortunately, without entering Dragon Rider mode, Liszt couldn’t observe the movement of magic particles.
Still, he could sense a clear distinction between the Magic Web’s energy and ordinary ambient magic: the former dissipated more slowly and was far more condensed.
"Acheronides, my initial impression is that the Magic Web’s energy hasn’t reached the extreme nature of dragon intent. It’s closer to the raw magic dragons emit... Or, to put it vividly, it might match the level of my current Dragon Aura. I never expected the Magic Web’s energy to be this formidable."
Mana is a unique form of energy cultivated by humans.
Basic mana, intermediate mana, and advanced mana form a complete progression, with perfected advanced mana representing its final state.
Technically, Dragon Aura transcends mana altogether. It is a higher form of energy achieved through continuous fusion and purification with the aid of a dragon’s magic.
"As you said, a Dragon Knight is like a scaled-down Magic Web." Liszt’s mind raced with possibilities. "Does that mean the Dragon Aura released by Dragon Knights shares fundamental similarities with the Magic Web’s energy? Are Dragon Aura and the Magic Web’s energy on the same level?"
"Level" might not be the most accurate term.
"Energy tier might be a better term."
"Brother makes a very good point," Acheronides agreed with a nod. She idolized Liszt, as he had taught her countless extraordinary concepts—celestial mechanics, the Big Bang, gravitational waves, wormholes, the three laws of thermodynamics, cellular structures, and the four major human tissues, among others.
In her eyes, Liszt’s knowledge far surpassed that of any other mage.
And rightly so—the knowledge Liszt brought came from centuries of Earth’s scientific progress. In contrast, the people of this world remained obsessed with mana and magic, spending their days either training or waging war, farming left to spirit bugs, mining to dragons.
They lacked the drive to develop technology.
The all-encompassing triangle theory of matter, magic, and spirit led humanity to focus on magical expansion rather than material science—though this was understandable. When strength and conquest came from training alone, who would bother with tedious inventions?
Even Liszt, a transmigrator who had experienced the light of modern civilization, found himself irresistibly drawn to magic, addicted to the pursuit of power.
He couldn’t care less about starting an industrial revolution.
Why bother pushing for an industrial revolution when one could simply gather some spirit bugs and ride a dragon to possess everything—such a shortcut is way better than grinding through industrial progress for centuries, barely managing to create a weapon of mass destruction like the atomic bomb, which can only create mushroom clouds. Far better to ride a few more dragons instead.
In short, Liszt could indeed earn the title of a Renaissance man in this world.
After carefully comparing the magic power of dragons with that of the Magic Web, he and Acheronides concluded that, fundamentally, these two types of mana belong to the same energy level.
"Dragon Aura is the peak form of mana, while the ordinary aura of dragons and the mana of the Magic Web are of an advanced nature. Other ambient mana is of a lower tier..."
The discussion lasted late into the night.
Acheronides summarized: "Other forms of mana, such as aura, blood magic, druidic magic, as well as the inherited mana of ancient warriors and mages, should all be branches of low-tier mana. Essentially, they remain low-tier, whereas Dragon Aura is a branch of high-tier mana."
Liszt quickly jotted down in his thick paper notebook: "A knight's aura is a training system built upon low-tier mana. Upon becoming a Dragon Knight, aura ascends to high-tier mana. The same applies to mages—various spells are evolutions of low-tier mana, and only upon becoming an Archmage does it ascend to high-tier mana."
From what is currently known, only Dragon Knights and Archmages involve high-tier mana, while other ancient warriors and mages are stuck at low-tier mana.
Thus, during the era of the Moon Empire, when the Magic Web was strong, mages ruled the world.
Now, with the Magic Web in decline, Dragon Knights—who possess scaled-down Magic Webs—shine brightly, leading to knights dominating the world. Compared to the mages' reverence for knowledge, knightly training is far more barbaric, resulting in the prosperous civilization of the Moon Empire being lost to time.
"We should categorize and define the properties of mana at each level for future publication," Liszt concluded. "Low-tier mana shall be called low-energy mana, high-tier mana as high-energy mana, and the ultimate form—Dragon Aura—as ultra-energy mana."
Abbreviated as low-magic, high-magic, and ultra-magic.
Earth Knights, Sky Knights, Domain Knights, mages, great magicians, bearskin-clad warriors, and vampires—these are all low-magic professions.
Dragon Knights and Archmages belong to high-magic professions.
Beyond that, unless Liszt also cultivates Dragon Aura, he cannot ascend to an ultra-magic profession. As for how Acheronides might elevate the mana of the Magic Web to a higher energy level and achieve an ultra-magic profession, that remains unknown.
