Chapter 768 Super Monster Beast
by adminReturning to "the Flame" for rest and recuperation.
Liszt checked the new task.
"Task: The Crystal Cyathea forest on Heart Island has matured. Although it remains undiscovered by the Kingdom of the Eagle's fleet due to its off-course location, there's no guarantee Heart Island will stay hidden forever. Once found, the Crystal Cyathea forest will serve as a clue. Please harvest all Crystal Cyathea. Reward: One super beast."
"Interesting!"
Upon reading the task, Liszt's interest was immediately piqued. Even without the smoky task prompt, he would have harvested the entire Crystal Cyathea forest—once matured into crystal form, Crystal Cyathea becomes a priceless treasure, with the crystal alone being extremely precious.
What truly caught his attention was the task reward: a super beast.
By now, his experience was vast, having encountered numerous beasts, but he had yet to see a super beast or a high-tier dragon beast. High-tier dragon beasts were one thing—after all, he had seen a super dragon beast—but what a super beast might look like deeply intrigued him.
"Could it also undergo a metamorphosis like super dragon beasts?"
The Sapphire Duchy had no traces of super beasts, and even on the legendary continent, records of them were scarce. Compared to the frequently mentioned super dragon beasts in tales, super beasts were far more reclusive—perhaps the authors of chivalric romances harbored an innate bias against species without dragon blood.
This led to super beasts being almost entirely overlooked.
The only super beast Liszt had come close to encountering was from a vampire. Back at the Iron Mine of the Trapped Dragon Mountain, he had slain the pureblood vampire Famur and retrieved fangs from his body.
According to Mary, it was a magic power artifact passed down through the Black Knight family—the fangs of a super beast, the Bloodthirsty Bat.
The fangs remained in his spatial storage ring. Though he had no use for vampire equipment, it could serve as a reward for future meritorious blood servants.
Musing, he took out the Bloodthirsty Bat's fangs and examined them, sensing the rich blood-tinged magic within. He recalled Mary's explanation—the fangs not only greatly enhanced a vampire's cultivation and spellcasting but could also be used in blood exchange rituals to purify the bloodline of purebloods.
"Based on Mary's account and later introductions from Horos and Bruce about the Black Knight family, it seems the earliest vampires had a profound connection with the Bloodthirsty Bat... Perhaps a mage bitten by the bat slowly transformed into the first vampire, founding the vampire spellcasting profession."
Unfortunately, with the decline of the Magic Web, spellcasters declined, leading to a cultural erosion.
Even the Black Knight family no longer knew their origins.
"Whatever wonders a super beast holds, I'll find out soon enough. But no matter how extraordinary, it must have its limits—if even super dragon beasts are unremarkable, super beasts can't be much more."
Compared to dragons and elves, beasts indeed lacked much uniqueness.
As night fell, Acheronides returned from the sea, joyfully holding a *spirit bug*. "Brother, I contracted a *spirit bug* from the seabed, but I don’t know what its host plant is." She also brought along some of the same species of aquatic grass—ordinary green, long, ribbon-like strands.
Liszt didn’t know the species either.
Human knowledge of the ocean was limited, so aquatic plants like seaweed and algae lacked official names. So far, the only oceanic spirit Liszt and Acheronides had developed was the Giant Kelp spirit, which produced large quantities of Giant Kelp-derived potions. Other spirits remained largely untapped.
Even edible kelp and laver cultivated by kelp bugs and laver bugs weren’t systematically developed.
Others, like red stone flower bugs, horsetail bugs, and inkhorn bugs, were simply randomly scattered in the sea and left to grow on their own.
With an increasing number of *spirit bugs*, Liszt, like many nobles, no longer prioritized them. Oceanic spirits, in particular, hadn’t been a priority for a long time—there was little point, as humans weren’t marine creatures and struggled to develop oceanic crops.
The Giant Kelp farming industry alone required countless serfs to labor daily on the waves, risking entanglement and drowning.
It was clear that marine development required patience. Proper diving equipment and trained maritime laborers were needed to gradually turn the ocean into a wealth of resources.
"Acheronides, you name its species," Liszt said casually.
"Let’s call it Waterweed."
Names don’t mean anything.
...
Upon returning to his territory, Liszt immediately issued orders for merchant teams to purchase Violent Earth Dog pups from various regions—specifically female pups. He intended to find a companion for Hiddleston. As for the free-range Tupo, she was past her prime with no potential left. Even consuming a Bloodline Fruit would only lead to a sudden death.
Hiddleston, in the prime of youth, possessed bloodline quality far surpassing his eight offspring, making him the most suitable for breeding Blizzard Beasts.
"If feasible, I’ll need to search for more Bloodline Fruits in the future, cultivate more Blizzard Beasts, expand the gene pool, and enable them to reproduce naturally."
Hybrid horses—crosses between black-blooded and ordinary horses—would be used to equip the regular knight orders.
Black-blooded horses would arm the Burning Knight Order.
Blizzard Beasts, meanwhile, would be reserved for the elite knights within the Burning Knight Order.
He even fantasized about Cris summarizing the training prospects of Lightblade Warriors, allowing him to raise a group of Fireblade Warriors with Leo, then mount Flame Dragonbirds to form an even more elite personal guard.
Of course,
forming these knight orders would take time.
After issuing his commands, he swiftly gathered a group of serfs skilled in logging, along with Brad and other crystal craftsmen, boarded the *Flame*, and set sail for Soulfruit Island the next day.
Upon landing, they first conducted a reconnaissance.
They discovered that the large pit where the Soulfruit Tree once grew had not sprouted anew.
"Perhaps all the Soulfruit Tree seeds were dug up, preventing new growth here... A pity, truly a pity. Now, we can only see if the withered wood of the Soulfruit Tree can cultivate a new one." Liszt shook his head before turning his gaze to the Crystal Cyathea.
Acheronides often traveled back and forth to Soulfruit Island, documenting the growth changes of the Crystal Cyathea. Currently, the Magic Guild was attempting to cultivate a new strain—one that could grow without relying on a dragon’s magic power. Though they hadn’t succeeded yet, the large stockpile of seeds should suffice for gradual consumption.
"Start digging. Aim to remove every single Crystal Cyathea—not a single one," Liszt ordered the lumberjacking team.
Though the serfs were curious about these beautiful, towering trees, they diligently set to work under the Lord’s command—digging and chopping before handing them over to Brad and the other crystal craftsmen for cutting and loading onto the ship.
Liszt stood atop a rock, waiting for a potential attack by a super-magical beast that might target Soulfruit Island at any moment.
