Chapter 224: Sacrificing the Black Dragon’s Minions to the Evil Dragon
by adminA fifteen-year-old girl wanted to learn magic, but finding a magician was not an easy task. After much inquiry, she finally learned of a magician's secluded address.
However, the magician asked her if she had money, and of course, she did not have any.
So the magician refused, saying, "No money, no magic. Get lost!"
Undeterred, Parris continued her search for a magician. After being rejected by three magicians, she finally succeeded in becoming an apprentice to a female magician. However, this female magician treated her as experimental material, subjecting her to painful "pain deprivation" magic experiments until she could no longer bear it and fled.
Apart from a body full of injuries, she learned no magic at all.
Starving, cold, and sick, she nearly died. She was then saved by a group of thieves living in the sewers, and she herself became a thief.
She thought that her life would be nothing more than a dirty rat surviving by stealing.
But unexpectedly, she found herself involved in a grand event. Parris narrated calmly, "In the Red Maple Mountains of the Maple Leaf Grand Duchy, there dwells a dragon, the Light Dragon. It makes the entire Red Maple Mountain appear like a mirage, making it impossible for anyone to find where it truly is."
Due to this dragon, all the people in the nearby cities of the Red Maple Mountains had moved away.
At this time, the court grand magician of the Maple Leaf Grand Duchy had an idea; he wanted to steal the mysterious power of the Light Dragon.
"I don't know from which magic book he read about a record stating that under certain conditions, humans killed by dragons would become ghost-like spirits called White Dragon Spirits. So, using the promise of dragon blood, with the support of the nobility, he deceived a large number of rats to help him create White Dragon Spirits."
Her beautiful face showed a hint of hatred, "And I was one of those rats deceived by dragon blood. If not for an accident, I would probably be dead by now."
"So, you didn't die but became a White Dragon Spirit?" Liszt exclaimed in surprise. It was the first time he had heard that someone killed by a dragon could become a spirit.
Isn't that similar to the ancient legend of aiding tigers in their evil deeds?
Parris shook her head, "True White Dragon Spirits are ghost-like entities. Do I look like a ghost... The grand magician didn't know that a thief had stolen his research notes, so we realized what was happening. But it was too late; the Light Dragon appeared before us."
The medium-sized Light Dragon appeared and disappeared intermittently. The rats were marked by the grand magician with symbols that interested the Light Dragon. This was an unremovable passive magic that extracted the resentment of humans after death and combined it with the Light Dragon's mysterious power, attempting to form the White Dragon Spirits he desired.
The rats were killed one by one, but the White Dragon Spirits never formed.
"We fled to avoid being captured by the Light Dragon and the grand magician while thinking of a countermeasure. The thief who stole the notes came up with a way to reverse the magical mark—voluntary sacrifice, becoming a living White Dragon Spirit... In the end, we succeeded; we became living White Dragon Spirits."
"A living White Dragon Spirit?" Liszt's eyes roamed over Parris, unable to comprehend what such a state entailed.
Parris seemed to understand Liszt's thoughts.
She extended her left hand, rolled up her sleeve, and revealed a section of pale arm, which was quite dazzling.
But in the next moment, the veins on her pale arm suddenly bulged, and scales began to grow out of the flesh. Her hand gradually twisted into a beast's claw: "Humans have never become dragonkind because the power of dragons corrupts everything. This corrupting force is called 'spirit' by magicians, and the White Dragon Spirit is the final result of human corruption."
Liszt used his Magic Eye.
He could see that Parris's left hand was filled with active magic, even drawing stray magic from the air to form a faint black mist around her arm.
"True White Dragon Spirits are white, ghost-like beings. We willingly sacrificed ourselves to be corrupted by the dragon's power, allowing us to survive. As the corrupting force grows stronger, it will eventually consume us, turning us into true White Dragon Spirits... or perhaps just kill us outright."
Parris retracted the transformation, and her arm returned to its previous pale appearance.
Liszt couldn't forget the monstrous arm he had just seen, which had left a deep impression on him. He sighed, both amazed and regretful, "This corruption is irreversible?"
"Yes, every time I use the power of the dragon, the corruption deepens. So, I don't easily use the power that can rival sky knights and grand magicians. I can probably live for another ten years," Parris sighed, without any regret or remorse, "We call ourselves Black Dragon Spirits."
She paused, then added, "I think if I unleash my full power, I could slay a sky knight."
This superfluous statement clearly hoped that Liszt would carefully consider how to treat her, not to act recklessly just because he had a father who was a sky knight.
Perhaps he was too engrossed in the story.
Or maybe he hadn't thought of acting recklessly at all. Liszt was simply amazed, "Are you sure that unleashing the spirit's power can really slay a sky knight?"
"Of course, otherwise how could we have killed the court grand magician back then?"
"You killed the grand magician?"
"We were four successful survivors of the Black Dragon Spirits. Each of us used our claws to tear the court grand magician apart." Parris laughed, "Later, we killed many nobles who had deceived the rats to their deaths and even formed a mercenary group. Until the Maple Leaf Grand Duchy sent dragon knights... We avenged ourselves, left the mercenary group, and each went into hiding."
Parris and her companions were wanted by the Maple Leaf Grand Duchy.
After hiding for some time, the Steel Ridge Kingdom and the Eagle Kingdom broke out into a new war, and she quietly returned to her hometown. Then came this part of the story in Flower Town.
After listening to the story,
Liszt thought for a full quarter of an hour before speaking, "Parris, so you didn't randomly kill nobles? And you can probably live for another ten years without using the spirit's power, but using it can unleash the strength to kill a sky knight? Finally, you are only wanted by the Maple Leaf Grand Duchy and haven't killed anyone in the Sapphire Grand Duchy?"
Parris nodded.
Liszt asked again, "Then, what about your invisibility spell?"
"It's a partial ability inherited from the Light Dragon, capable of adjusting the light around my body to achieve invisibility. It's just a small trick," she said, taking a sip of milk tea, "I've finished telling you about my identity, so do you have any other questions?"
"Trust takes time to build."
Liszt decided not to pry further and said, "Given your strength and special abilities, I hope to hire you as my bodyguard to protect my personal safety. If you accept, I am willing to pay you one gold coin per month."
"I can accept the role of a bodyguard, but one gold coin is not enough. I also need a large house, preferably with a garden; I want Maggie to regain her status as a free citizen and have a land knight teach her how to cultivate battle aura; I also want a horse and two servants."
"Stop!"
Liszt glared, "I'm hiring you to work, not to enjoy yourself. One gold coin, Maggie's status as a free citizen, and a house in the noble district. Everything else, you'll have to handle yourself!"
