Chapter 860: Shoveltusked Elephant
by adminWith their massive bodies and exaggerated lower jaws, Liszt had already named these giant elephants in his mind—Shoveltusked Elephants.
Seeing their thick earth-aligned magic and their formidable ability to flatten the ground with a single step, he felt an overwhelming desire to tame this herd of Shoveltusked Elephants.
And then.
Use them to build roads!
"With these Shoveltusked Elephants, building a 500-kilometer road shouldn’t be a problem. I knew the Misty Quest wouldn’t give an impossible challenge—it’s all arranged by Fate’s design! Without this herd, there wouldn’t have been a 500-kilometer road task!"
His mind suddenly cleared. Sensing his thoughts, the Invisible Dragon let out a sharp "Woo-ee!" as it emerged from the material boundary, revealing its liquid-crystal body.
A torrent of Dragon Fear poured forth, crashing onto the Shoveltusked Elephants below.
"Trumpet!"
"Trumpet!"
"Trumpet!"
The elephants, busy foraging for food, were caught off guard by the sudden assault of Dragon Fear. They shrieked in panic before collapsing to the ground one after another, not daring to move.
Dragon-type magical beasts felt an even clearer pecking order in the presence of a true dragon.
"Bard, keep suppressing the Shoveltusked Elephants. I’ll personally tame them!" After communicating, Liszt leaped off the dragon’s back and landed amidst the herd.
Elephant herds usually had a leader.
Liszt noticed one Shoveltusked Elephant that was exceptionally large, with the others following closely behind it. Clearly, this was the herd’s matriarch.
"Trumpet!"
As Liszt approached step by step, the matriarch, still under the pressure of Dragon Fear, tried to shift its body but failed. The reason was simple—Liszt also unleashed Dragon Fear, imposing immense pressure on the matriarch. It could only let out fearful bellows.
However, the matriarch soon grew confused. Liszt withdrew his Dragon Fear and instead took out a large portion of fruit from his spatial gem—food he had prepared before setting out.
Ever since receiving news of the elephant herd, he had anticipated this moment and made preparations for taming them.
Rewards and discipline—food was the carrot, strength was the stick.
This was a skill Liszt had mastered long ago. Back when he tamed Hiddleston, he had already developed a method for dealing with wild beasts.
After some back and forth, under the intermittent pressure of Liszt’s Dragon Fear and the tempting aroma of the fruit, the matriarch finally understood its fate—submit to this human. Submission meant food; resistance meant punishment. The logic was clear.
"Woo-ee!"
The Invisible Dragon circled the herd, faithfully playing the role of an obedient lackey—compared to the Fire Dragon Leo, Bard’s will was far easier to align with. Full bonding was within reach. In the order of completion, it would likely be the Pale Emerald Dragon Ethan first, Bard second, and Leo last.
The Fire Dragon’s fiery defiance often suppressed Liszt’s guidance, making the synchronization process rocky.
Mounting the matriarch, Liszt sat cross-legged on its back, occasionally tossing down pieces of fruit. Thus, he guided the matriarch forward, with the rest of the Shoveltusked Elephants following closely behind. The caravan slowly left the valley of the Dusk Tribe and headed toward Flamekeep City.
As the sun set and rose again, after a full day and night of travel, they finally crossed the Eddy River.
There, they encountered a patrolling knight patrol.
"Your Highness!" The knights, on high alert, spotted Liszt atop the elephant and hurriedly saluted in surprise.
"Fetch Duarte and Emily immediately, and bring a few wagonloads of fruit—stored wild bananas if available," Liszt commanded. "At once, Your Highness."
After a short while, Duarte and Emily arrived at the spot where the elephant herd was gathered, bringing six carts of fruit—given the scarcity of fruit this season, gathering six carts was already quite an achievement.
"Trumpet!"
"Trumpet!"
"Trumpet!"
The elephant herd occasionally trumpeted, but overall remained under Liszt's control.
"Your Highness, what are your orders?" Duarte looked at the elephant herd driven by Liszt without surprise—this incredible dragon-knight lord always achieved unexpected results.
"This batch of Shoveltusked Elephants are the intermediate dragon beasts I just tamed. Their natural magic is quite appealing to me. If we use them for road construction, it'll get the job done twice as fast." Liszt gestured for the knights to distribute the fruit to the elephant herd. "However, I don’t have time to train them further, so the specific taming plan will be left to you."
Duarte looked worried: "Your Highness, I don’t know much about beast taming..."
Emily, however, answered right away: "Leave it to me, Your Highness!"
"In that case, Duarte, you will fully assist Emily. The task of taming the Shoveltusked Elephants is Emily's job now." Liszt was satisfied with Emily’s attitude—a qualified follower should accept the lord’s tasks without hesitation, not complain.
Realizing his earlier misstep, Duarte quickly added: "Don't worry, Your Highness, I will fully cooperate with Emily in taming the elephant herd!"
"Give her whatever help she needs—taming the Shoveltusked Elephants takes priority!" Liszt glanced at Duarte.
Then, he turned to Emily: "These Shoveltusked Elephants are naturally gentle and pretty easy to handle. However, teaching them how to cooperate in road construction will require some training. You have experience taming Blizzard Beasts, and they should know how to assist you in taming the Shoveltusked Elephants."
"Got it!"
"Then, for the next two days, you’ll follow me. I’ll make the elephant herd’s leader listen to you." Without Liszt’s strength to suppress them, the Shoveltusked Elephants would hardly submit to an Earth Knight.
Hearing this, Emily’s face broke into a smile: "Yes, Your Highness!" The chance to spend time with her idol was something she deeply desired. In her youthful mind, Liszt occupied a significant place—a mix of admiration and complex emotions.
Of course, she was not a girl easily swayed by emotions. She possessed steel nerves and a quick mind: "Your Highness, if we are to tame the elephant herd, food is the most basic necessity. The Shoveltusked Elephants’ appetite must be enormous, and the current food reserves in Flame City may not be sufficient."
"I’ll handle that. First, go and bring the Blizzard Beast squad here. We’ll meet back in an hour."
Liszt turned and signaled to the Invisible Dragon Bard using the Dragon Heart Code, instructing Bard to keep the elephant herd calm and prevent them from disturbing the nearby plantations.
He then went straight to the Flame City Mage Tower, where Acheronides had already returned.
"Brother."
"Acheronides, I’ve discovered the natural node on Black Horse Island. Now I can freely travel between Black Horse Island and Flame Island. If your spatial ring isn’t in use, lend it to me for transporting supplies. If you need anything, just make a list—I’ll bring it for you."
"Sure thing." Acheronides emptied the contents of the spatial ring into the laboratory and handed it back to Liszt.
Six spatial rings he slipped onto his fingers.
Liszt returned to the elephant herd, where Emily had already gathered the Blizzard Beast squad nearby. Upon seeing Liszt, Hiddleston and the eight little ones went wild wagging their tails—they had never forgotten their former master.
"Woof! Woof!"
"Woof! Woof!"
"Hiddleston, come!" Liszt smiled and beckoned. Hiddleston immediately dashed over, affectionately rubbing against Liszt’s pant leg.
Though massive in size—the size of a small elephant—it was now acting like a puppy.
Patting Hiddleston’s large head, Liszt then got serious: "Emily, taming the Shoveltusked Elephant herd starts now."
