Chapter 0754: The Emperor’s Battlefield
byChapter 0754: Emperors' Battleground
Hearing the elder say this, Qin Yun felt much more at ease—at least this was real.
"Elder, what powerful creatures are down there?" Qin Yun stood at the edge, gazing into the seemingly bottomless abyss.
"Plenty! The lizard dragons we're fishing up now are just the weakest. Down there, there are all sorts of bizarre and strange monsters!" The elder chuckled. "Kid, if you really plan to go down, it's no different from suicide!"
Qin Yun frowned. "If I want to leave the Nethermoon Wasteland, my only choice is to go down there."
The elder sighed. "Indeed, that's the only path. But even the strongest among us dare not descend. Take Xie Ying, the Lunar Immortal, for example—he's the strongest here, yet he wouldn't dare go down!"
Xie Ying was already dead, slain by the Demon Immortal Emperor's shadow minion.
Qin Yun also knew how powerful Xie Ying was—he was a powerhouse at the Celestial King level.
"Elder, what you mentioned earlier about the Netherworld Emperor—is it true?" Qin Yun suddenly grew curious about this matter.
The elder stroked his beard and said, "Hard to say—just a legend! Back then, the Demon Immortal Emperor and the Netherworld Emperor were enemies. Their power was so immense that their clashes during the Immortal Barren War would have greatly affected the Immortal Barren Lands!"
"Later, they invited the Immortal Barren Emperor. The three emperors built this place together, which they called the Battlefield of Emperors!"
"Thus, the Netherworld Emperor and the Demon Immortal Emperor could duke it out here. In the end, the Netherworld Emperor lost and was even slain."
Listening to these legends, Qin Yun was stunned. He then sent a mental message to Yao Fang, asking her to rifle through the Demon Immortal Emperor's memories to see if this event had truly occurred.
Due to a special curse placed on her by the Demon Immortal Emperor, Yao Fang shared a mysterious connection with him, allowing her to peek into his memories without him knowing.
"We've got a bite!" The elder suddenly laughed. "After more than ten days, there's finally movement!"
The elder, whose strength was close to that of the Martial King, forcefully lifted the long pole and pulled up a lizard dragon with wings stretching 20–30 meters. Though not very large, the elder was delighted.
The lizard dragon was hoisted up and slammed down onto the open ground behind them. The others quickly rushed over to help, working together to slay the lizard dragon.
Here, the fishermen always assisted one another.
After killing the lizard dragon, the others resumed their fishing.
Meanwhile, the elder went to work with a grin, carving up the lizard dragon.
Qin Yun also noticed that the gear used by these fishermen was top-notch.
Especially the fishing poles and ropes—they appeared thin yet were incredibly tough, capable of hauling up such massive lizard dragons.
"Elder, do you need any help?" Qin Yun found the elder quite easy to talk to.
"Just call me Old Wang!" the elder chuckled.
Qin Yun took out a few blades and swiftly controlled them to carve up the lizard dragon. His speed was so fast that Old Wang was left gobsmacked.
"Young man, you've got chops!" Old Wang laughed even more heartily.
"Old Wang, I've been trapped here for two years. I truly want to leave, but I don't know much about the situation below. What should I do?" Qin Yun sighed softly and asked.
Old Wang's expression turned serious. "Every season, a weird event occurs. The Nine Suns in the sky align directly above the abyss, which keeps the demons and evil spirits at bay! You must find the way out before the suns shift away from the abyss. If you fail, you must ascend immediately!"
"Many have tried, but few have succeeded. Quite a few died down there because they couldn't make it back in time."
"Has no one ever succeeded?" Qin Yun found it pretty hard to believe.
"Yes, there are, but it mainly depends on luck! Most deaths happen because of the hordes of evil spirits and demons below!" said Elder Wang.
Qin Yun pondered and felt that he wouldn’t have much trouble going down, especially since Yao Fang was with him.
Moreover, he possessed the power of Haoran Righteous Qi and shadow power.
Shadow power allowed him to shroud himself, while the Haoran Righteous Qi could repel evil spirits.
"Yao Fang-jie, I’m planning to jump into the abyss!" Qin Yun said to Yao Fang in the third pearl. "Have you found any memories of the Demon Immortal Emperor?"
"Don’t rush down! Wait here for a while. Wait for the Nine Suns to align over the abyss first!" Yao Fang replied.
"Why?"
Qin Yun was surprised. Yao Fang was cut off from the outside, so she shouldn’t know what the elder had said, yet she knew about the Nine Suns aligning in the sky.
"Because there’s a weapon down in the abyss—the Soul Sacred Blade, once wielded by the Netherworld Emperor. Though damaged, it absorbs the power of the Nine Suns periodically to repair itself," Yao Fang explained.
"You want me to find that weapon?" Qin Yun asked.
"Yes! The Soul Sacred Blade is a renowned divine weapon, the bane of the Demon Immortal Emperor’s existence! During their battle, the Demon Immortal Emperor poured everything into destroying it!" Yao Fang said.
"That Netherworld Emperor must’ve been trash—having such a powerful weapon yet still getting killed!" Qin Yun thought the Netherworld Emperor wasn’t all that impressive.
"In straight combat, the Demon Immortal Emperor would have died! After destroying the Soul Sacred Blade, he was severely injured. It was the Celestial Emperor’s cheap shot that finished off the Netherworld Emperor!" Yao Fang’s tone was full of disdain as she spoke of this.
"Isn’t the Celestial Emperor supposed to be one of the good guys in the Immortal Realm?" Qin Yun suddenly recalled Xie Qirou’s story—how the Celestial Emperor, jealous of his own daughter’s treasures and fearing she might surpass him, sealed her away.
"They’re all equally despicable!" Yao Fang said. "Once you’re down there, don’t fear the evil spirits. Channel your mental energy to sense the aura of the Soul Sacred Blade!"
Qin Yun felt his pulse quicken.
He didn’t have a particularly good blade at the moment. Though he could forge one himself, the best he could make was a Mystic-grade weapon.
If he obtained the Soul Sacred Blade, he wouldn’t have to rely on the Nine Sun Divine Hammer all the time.
In the following days, Qin Yun spent his time by the abyss, watching the others fish and helping them butcher the dragon meat, earning a large number of beast bones in return.
After waiting for over two months, the Nine Suns finally aligned above the abyss at noon one day.
That day, no one was fishing. Instead, many of them leaped into the abyss.
"Young man, remember—you only have about an hour and change. If you can’t find the way, come back immediately!" Elder Wang reminded him.
"Got it. See you topside!" With that, Qin Yun jumped into the abyss.
To save time, he had Ling Yuner increase gravity’s pull, making him heavier so he could plummet faster.
Seconds later, he landed at the bottom.
On the way down, he noticed the walls pockmarked with countless caves—hiding places for demonic beasts.
The light of the Nine Suns shone down, keeping the beasts holed up.
The abyss floor was rugged, littered with tattered clothes.
"The beasts eat the flesh but leave the rags," Qin Yun muttered. He unleashed his powerful mental energy, scanning for life signs below.
With the Nine Sun Divine Pendant, he was highly sensitive to the flow of solar spiritual energy. Soon, he detected a direction where vast amounts of it were being guzzled.
He dashed toward that direction.
Qin Yun wasn't in a hurry to find the exit now, but to seek out the Soul Sacred Blade.
After an hour passed, the depths of the abyss gradually began to darken as the Nine Sun moved beyond it.
"I can only determine a rough bearing for now!" Qin Yun had thought he would find it quickly, but now he realized that place was extremely far away.
The abyss stretched endlessly, and Qin Yun flew along one side.
Half an hour later, the abyss below plunged into utter darkness, and swirling black fog gradually emerged, completely blocking out the faint light.
Qin Yun also used his shadow power to shroud himself in the darkness.
At this moment, he could hear the snarls and howls of demonic creatures and the flapping of wings.
The abyss below was a demonic free-for-all.
Qin Yun looked up and saw many kaleidoscopic pinpricks of light—those were the glowing eyes of countless demonic beasts.
Only Qin Yun kept his cool, gliding unfazed. Anyone else would've probably died of fright.
Several days passed, and Qin Yun, still flying through the abyss, finally came to a stop.
Here, there was a gaping chasm, hundreds of meters wide.
"Is the Soul Sacred Blade down there?" Qin Yun produced a flame sigil and threw it down, unleashing a roaring inferno.
He watched as the talisman fell until its flames extinguished.
"It didn't reach the bottom!"
He then tossed down a blast charge.
A short while after the shell fell, a firestorm surged upward.
"Quite deep!" Qin Yun took a deep breath, made sure Yao Fang wasn't meditating, and then jumped down.
He also noticed that no demonic beasts were hiding in this pit.
The beasts kept their distance.
Before long, Qin Yun finally reached the bottom and detected something devouring the residual flames.
"It really is down here!" Qin Yun cautiously moved in that direction, holding aloft a luminescent stone to illuminate the area.
Moments later, he made out the hilt of a blade. Excited, he walked over, gripped it, and wrenched the blade loose.
After drawing the blade, nothing happened.
"Is this the Soul Sacred Blade?" Qin Yun's first impression of this divine weapon was its crude appearance—the blade was fissured, and there were no intricate patterns to be seen. It looked like a junked relic.
He had expected it to at least be on par with the Nine Sun Divine Hammer.
The hammer, at least, was a sight to behold.
"Xiao Yun, the Soul Sacred Blade is damaged and still in the process of self-repair!" Ling Yuner said.
Qin Yun carefully sensed the intricate patterns within the Soul Sacred Blade and was stunned to discover—inside, there seemed to be totemic engravings and various powerful mystical patterns.
